Shhhh, it's still not in my hands yet. Charlie Lamb is making me one of his Sunbear Longbows. He does not do this for a living or for many people. I saw one of his bows go off in a charity auction last year for $1,600.00. Ouch.

Its all personal prefernce. Im 6'4" and I like a longbows from 66" to 72" all depends on design and what im using if for. All recurves are a bit shorter, so their range dont bother me a bit. I just notice, that the shorter the limbs, the less forgivness a bow tends to have. On the other hand, shorter limbs tend to be a bit more snappy and due to the physics, will have faster limbs.

Right now, im working on a 68" long bow, with about 8" of reflex. When I finish it, it will shoot pretty much like a long limbed recurve. Im going to tiller it to about 70 lbs at 28", so it should be pretty quick. I put in about 4" of deflex to try to avoid the excess of handshock, which is sure to present itself. Limbs that fast added to a light handle, I might be over doing it a bit. I guess Ill see. Im just playing with this design to try to find the the best of the both worlds.

I find myself shooting my longbow more but I'm not sure which one I "like" shooting more. I like the fact that the longbow is a takedown so if I do hunt with one that's probably going to be it.

Longbow: Original Jack Harrison: Alaskan Frontier Archery - Siberian Wolf takedown 60" 54# Carbon fiber, Bamboo, ?, with mammoth ivory tips. It's fashioned after an Asiatic/Mongolian design that was traditionally shorter to be shot from horseback. It's one of the most eligant and beautiful bows I've seen much less had the chance to own and shoot which may explain why I like shooting it more than the recurve (which is still a beauty!)

Recurve: Great Bear Archery - Uganik 64" 55# Cocobolo, Yew

They were both made here in Alaska. The longbow is sleeved at the handle and breaks in two. It's actually faster than any recurve I've shot to date but I can shoot my recurve a bit better (probably because of the length and my 29" traditional draw).

Ahh that explains it, I was wondering because you kept saying it was a take down and I didnt see where the limbs came off in any way. Either bow is a beaut.

Beautiful bows.. I'd sure like to test shoot that take-down longbow..

I have a personal like for 62" recurve.. but I've shot 56" bows that were nice and on the other hand had 58" bows that I couldn't comfortably shoot.. How much of the bow is riser vs how much working limb you have makes a difference.. Your Draw-length is a big factor to consider.

The Bob Lee I recently purchased is "made" for a 29" draw.. 52#@29".. I wish I'd done it years ago, for me the difference is great.
