A dog does not understand property lines. What happens if you shoot a neighbors dog on accident? What happens if you shoot and miss and hit a hunter? What happens if the hunter borrowed the dog? What are you teaching? I like my hunting dog more than most people and believe me sir if my dog was ever shot I would feel almost the same as if one of my kids was shot. The tresspassing is the issue, not the dogs. Be a man and go after the problem, don't be a kid and shoot one of the dogs. By the way, having already thought out the situation and posted online, if you went through with it, hopefully no one reads your posts.

Last year I had dogs from across the street running on my property while I was hunting and at first I was so mad I said I was going to shoot one the next time they came under my stand. The next time they came under my stand they were 50 yards behind a deer.

The Lesson: the dogs were pushing deer during a time when I likely wouldn't have had much action. I eased up on the dogs and realized, dogs don't know property lines, they don't understand the concept, and what good is shooting a dog? If you really don't want them there, call the local police or animal control and let them know that other people's pets are roaming your property and you do not want them there.

People....get in the game here. I dont mind the dogs or even the hunters hunting wth dogs. I just want to know when they are there, so i'm not.

Oh so now you don't want to teach them a lesson by shooting their dogs like you said before?

Now you just want to "know when they are there" huh? Well good. I hope you're serious about this and not just saying you want to be safe, trying to save face on a forum by backpedaling your whole conversation.

you must be one of these worthless F*****S that runs these damn dogs to hunt with. Its not ****ing ridiculous that i want to protect my ground and the deer that are there. are deer a nuisance? YES. Do i like hunting them? YES. will i shoot a dog because the owner wont listen or obey laws after he has had plenty of opportunity to? YES. You all keep spinning this as its not the dogs fault, and its not... but what will change the dog owners mind. Nothing because they don't care. Slap them on the wrist by pressing charges and going through our sh*tty justice system or man up and shoot the one thing that will make them change their ways......I'm not the one playing god....the idiots that trespass with their dogs are the ones playing god because they dont care and dont want to do anything right.

No. Not at all. Just trying to convey that thinking logically, practically and considering the consequences of your actions is always better than just reacting out of anger. Always.

The fact that you've restored to foul language, attacking me via a forum post for giving level–headed advice AND flip-flopping your opinion on hunters with dogs shows how immature you are. First you don't mind them, now they're "effing worthless "

The fact that you think "manning up" means acting like a child and simply shooting an animal out of anger also shows how immature you are. You can be a grown man and still be immature and sadly, I think that's the case here.

Alternatively, you could 'man up' and do what's morally right; but at the end of the day this is just a forum and you're just some guy making stupid decisions.

Anyways, best of luck with your plan.

I have not shot a dog yet. I really do not want too. That has been my stance from the start of this 3 years ago. These hunters just keep ignoring the law though. They never have permission to hunt. They dont ask, they dont care. They just trespass and then worry about getting out of trouble if they get caught. The best situation is me catching the dogs and then sitting on the back of my truck with it in the bed alive. however i have no idea what these idiots that run dogs would do if i was in possession of their trespassing dog. they would likely shoot me. do i want to die? no. so its time to get rid of the problem before it starts again this winter. I want to know who is on my property at all times. one time we had some goose hunters stop by and ask to hunt them. we said kill as many as you want. the next day all our tile outlet baskets were missing. hmmmm wonder where they went. the hunters were from out of state, have no idea who or where they are now. if i have a trail camera come up missing, im going to be pissed. no trespassers, nothing will get stolen.

I would imagine they will be more irritated if they find a dead dog than you with one of their dogs alive. As many have said I hope you can look at this objectively and as an adult. I keep hearing "my deer" they are not your deer they are simply deer and as stated earlier not more important than law or people.

If you shoot one I will almost guarentee law enforcement will view this much worse than trespassing and you will now be the criminal not said trespassers.
