I don't think you "own" the wildlife....hence "wild"

I don't see a difference between a coyote and a dog when they are both chasing the deer the same and if you don't think a dog will kill a deer if it catches it you are crazy.

Not sure I could ever shoot a dog, but that would piss me right off as well. I have heard of that happening here in MI....that the dogs just run loose, and that according to the game warden, if your dog is stuck(cornered a yote) on someone elses property, you have a right to go get it if you call the warden.

This doesn't sound appealing to me if I was the land owner, and think it is BS...but these guys let their dogs run WHEREVER!

First of all you can't prove "ownership" of a wild animal if its running wild. Its common sense.

I hope you dont use that as a reason for shooting/having shot someones dog on your property. I'm sure any game warden or police officer will simply laugh in your face, at the minimum.

Now you can take reasonable measures to protect your property but your state will decide whats reasonable. I wouldn't be surprised if YOU get in trouble for killing someones dog in this situation.

If that doesn't break any laws then there's still the chance of a civil lawsuit against you if the dog owners are pissed and smart. If they're dumb who knows what they'll do.

You could have simply taken one of the dogs the next time it was on your property and then called the police for tresspassing (dog and owner).

I strongly advise agaist what you are doing. Don't react on emmotion this will not work out for you in the end. Killing pets in todays society is often looked at as a very serious crime. Also, if these individuals are as defiant as you say you will be starting a war that could escalate to a level no one wants. These are deer they are not more important than people I assure you!

There are civil ways of handling these situations.

as a landowner when wildlife is on my property its mine. when it leaves and crosses the property line then its someone elses. with the amount of taxes we pay and the acres of corn and soybeans i plant and the extra i plant to try to cover up the deer and their destruction is way to much money to let rogue dog owners tell me what to do and push me around. I have tried to be nice. several times (atleast 3) when the conservation agent asked if i wanted to press charges i said no let it go, i'm gonna be the bigger man here and look the other way. Well My neck is tired and sore! Its time to take a stand and quit letting these a-holes run wild. I'm sure its gonna turn out bad when someone loses a thousand dollar dog, but when they lie straight to your face....whats the worth? Evidently running hunting dogs is a big deal....to me growing big deer like this one is an even bigger deal

Maybe these idiots learn their lesson over the summer and start asking to hunt, i can only hope.....but i can assure you the next radio collard dog i see is not gonna make it off my property.

So you didn't press charges when you could have, but you're tired of it so you'll shoot the dogs?!?! that makes absolutely no sense....

these dog runners have had an opportunity to stop tresspassing. i even gave them the opportunity to ask to hunt. they did not do it because they feel they dont have to because "dogs cant read signs" well dog fur looks like coyote fur from now on. why dont these guys go buy thier own land and hunt that with their dogs....then nobody is tresspassing

    1. The wild life still isn't yours, whether it's on your property or not.
    2. You have to plant extra because of the overpopulated deer, then get mad because dogs chase your problem off?
    3. You go from 'not pressing charges' to shooting and think you are the bigger man?

The deer are actually owned by your state, this is why we get to pay a fee to harvest them. As for dogs running wild, if they're trained coyote dogs I don't believe this is the situation, the deer in your picture look displaced but not chased. Its counter productive for coyote hunters to have a dog that will take a deer track, I've hunter coyotes behind dogs. Good luck in your situation, hope you chose the correct course of action.

In Illinois if u see the dog killing livestock or a pet not under the supervision of its owner than u can kill the dog. I don't know about your state but Mabey buy a bunny rabbit then when your in your stand leave the rabbit on the ground on a leash then if the dogs come and attack the rabbit bamo!!!!!!! Lol

I don't understand someones logic of owning a wild animal or feeling they can kill someones dog. The importance you are placing on deer over the law over people basically over all else is showing extreme inmaturity. In 5 years you will wish you had handled this differently if you do indeed go and kill these dogs. I can't imagine growing up "my lab that was my hunting partner all through high school and lived by my side" had strayed away a few 100 yards as she often would in pursuit of game was shot by someone like yourself. I hope at least you feel big and strong after you do this.
