My wife and I have five dogs. Two Great Pyrenees (Max and Roxy), one genetically defunct lab mix (Madison), a pure-bred beagle (Elly May - my tracking dog) and a Redbone hound (Little Ann - a real potential tracker). I need to say up front that we have a dog door installed in the back door so these are all in-house dogs who come and go as they please into the back yard which, just so you know, is fenced like a fortress and is attached to a fenced dog run that is about 20 yards wide by 100 yards long. My son, who is an EOD tech in the Air Force, deployed to Saudi Arabia in October. He came to our house and dropped off his two dogs, a yellow lab and a black lab. They're both young and full of energy. That made seven dogs. Our daughter, Heather (the one who is also in the Air Force) came up for an unexpected visit the day after Thanksgiving. Thankfully, I was here instead of hunting, which I addressed in my thread in the bowhunting forum. Heather has been trying for a couple of years to get them to do a surgical procedure on her hip to repair some damage that was done in a car accident a few years ago. That's a long story that I probably couldn't explain even if I wanted to. Well, her surgery is tomorrow morning, and the reason for her visit on Friday and Saturday was to drop off her two dogs, a Cocker Spaniel and a miniature Australian Shepherd. So, now we have NINE dogs in the house. Needless to say, there is no peace to be had unless I barricade myself in my hunting room, which is where I am now. Fortunately, all of these dogs are female with the exception of Max, my male Great Pyrenees. Otherwise this wouldn't work. Have any of you ever lived through anything like this? I'm wondering how I'm going to stay sane.
I had two dogs already when this summer started. One was my Weim and one was a "gift" from some dolt tha tmust have been tired of a full blood husky female and dumped her out here in the stix. FF to this summer I drove in home and at the end of the lane, living in the culvert....were three lab mix pups that some other dolt decided to dump on me. I'm now the owner of three cats and five dogs...four turkeys and about 80 chickens...Lol. I've had five dogs on hand before for a short time back in the early 90's so it's not that big a deal. No shelters would take the extra three so I decided to keep them and train them as antler shed hunters. They seem to be coming along nicely and I used one to find a bowkilled doe this fall.
Yep, I guess you can relate. I suppose I should have also added that we also have three cats and two horses. Needless to say, the cats haven't been coming into the house much lately.
Lol, no I expect not, hahaha. My weim gets along very well with other animals but the lab pups and the husky...I have to watch them or they'll try to catch the cats if they are all out together. It's all still a work in progress, lol.
I also love dogs, but there is no way on earth I could stand more than one or two in my home. Good luck! lol
Just sayin, if Max has not been "fixed", then he is either going to die of a heart attack or of exhaustion. But, with a smile.
All of our dogs and cats are "fixed". :D Here's a crappy iPhone picture of the "pack" on day one of "Obedience class." :D (Actually, I'm holding up a few pieces of bread so my wife can take a picture.)
You've turned into a the crazy dog man of the neighborhood. I commend you helping your kids out like that. I am the owner of a standard poodle and now a golden doodle. So I have about 140 lbs of dog in the house. My wife wants another dog and I am standing firm. Two is all I can handle.
