Hello All, my first post. Been reading here a bunch, so thought I would add my .02.

I let this guy walk 2 nights ago, and now I'm second guessing myself. He has a broken G4, so i couldn't push the thumb, but now I can't sleep thinking over that decision. I've got one bigger buck in the area, but haven't had him closer than 65 yards.
Well, I guess that's why they call it hunting, not shooting. Strategy and decisions..... never a perfect answer. Going back out Wednesday...... I hope I see him again.

If that was me, I would be eating venison right now.

You're right when you say it's hunting not shooting. Wonder what your next decision will be?? Who knows if the bigger guy is close by.....

You will never shoot a big one if you shoot a little one and go home. Good for you. Some smart guy told me one time...If you have to figure out if it is "big enough", it's not. What ever "big enough" is to you. Whether it is borderline barely legal (one 3" spike in WI) or about 150". There has been many years I passed 15-20 different bucks and bought beef. That's just me.

ps: I passed 2 8pt last night about that size...no regrets. I can take a doe for dinners.

If you would have been happy with that buck then you made a mistake. If not, then you made the right call. Only you can make that decision!

Whitetail speaks truth...if you have to wonder if "big enough" it's not big enough for you. That's different from guy to guy, but is still true in each individual case.

I agree 100%. Next year you'll be very happy that you let him walk. when you have a "SHOOTER" infront of you, you'll know its the one. I let a nice buck walk a few years ago and good thing I did, because a shooter came behing him 20 minutes later. Last weekend 22nd, I had a boarder line shooter infront of me and he bedded down, I was waiting for him to stand up and move at least in a clearer shoot lane. an hour later after observing this buck a 3x larger buck came out of now where, and didn't present a shoot long enough for me to shoot, but had I shot the other buck I would have most likely spooked the bigger one.

I'm glad I have three buck tags on my VA license, although at this point I'm just hoping I can take a deer before the gun season starts and they all go nocturnal. I have seen less than a third of the number of deer that I saw by this time last season.

I would shoot a buck that size in a heart beat.
