Hey Will , your right i do go a funny shade of red LOL , matches my head if i stay out in the sun for to long :) . Also i heard off Tim , great news .... he may be making the trip again too .

Don't you worry about the Whisky , I'll bring a selection if Customs allow me :) and believe me ,if Gary and Mark bring some Whisky too , we are sure gonna sleep well enough to knock out the best sleepwalker LOL .

My fellow Pommies Mark and Gary are great guys with a lot more experience than myself and i'm sure they have some great stories to share , i have read most of them .

Jeff , anything Meindl is quality boot and more than up to the challenge you are gonna experience .

Russ I have personally seen you remove your socks and shoes to make a quieter approach while stalking a hog. This on the place in Prairieville that was loaded with Mesquite thorns. Why do you need boots?

Keep in mind, we will be, at most, thirty minutes away from two towns. Supplies, gas and such can be easily acquired. I have also picked this located due to its proximity to a quality hospital-in the event something goes terribly wrong.

    Ok, a gear list:

We have established two pairs of boots-one pair for certain and water proof of course.
your clothing should be packed with layering in mind. The temps will be 30s in the mornings, 65-75 by midday, and 40s by evening. A medium to heavy weight jacket is a must-perhaps rain gear (we do get afternoon rain showers and heavy snow is a possibility that time of year). If you can bring a sleeping bag, do so. If you cannot, let me know and one will be provided. We will sleep in canvas wall tents with wood stoves . I have built make shift wood cot to keep us off the ground. More cots would be helpful. Bring a chair for around the campfire too (again, I have this stuff for the lads flying in). Bring head gear-stocking cap and ball cap. It can be both sunny and cold in the same day. Sunglasses and lip balm. Gloves and warm socks-wicking socks or wool socks work best. More essentials include:

    Bow/arrows/broadheads (see regs)/quiver/bow sling/release
Rangefinder and binocs (you can bring a spotting scope if you desire)
Camera and video gear (the scenery is breathtaking)
A good day pack. A frame pack would be helpful packing out meat
Cash, credit cards, checks (I will purchase food for the camp once I have an accurate count of those coming. We can split the bill-in the past...about $100 each)
Required licenses and permits (hunting, fishing, etc.)
Waterproof matches and butane lighter (keep it in your pack for emergencies)
knife...I will have planty for those flying (not a problem if you pack it with your checked luggage)
    Flashlight, spare batteries and bulb
Maps and compass /GPS- a GPS will save steps

    REX snore repellent

    Clothing (with layers in mind):

    Rain gear
    Pants, shorts (yes shorts)
    Shirts
    Underclothes
    Shoes/boots
    Socks
    Belt
    Jacket, coat
    Hat, stcking cap
    Gloves
    Nightwear

    Toiletries:

    Toothbrush, paste
    Soap, shampoo
    Mirror
    Comb, brush
    Deodorant
    Washcloth, towels
    Shave gear

    Miscellaneous:

Fishing gear if you plan to fish
    Extra prescription glasses/contacts
    Prescription medicines
    Watch, alarm clock
    Sunglasses
    Sunscreen, lip balm
Tent, tent fly, poles, stakes and ropes (set up the tent before leaving to be sure everything is there and you know how to put it up)
Hammer or hatchet (for driving tent stakes; keep it in the tent bag)
Ground cloth (to go under the tent and keep it clean and dry)
    Sleeping bags
    Ground pads, mattresses and/or cots
    Pillows
    Tarp (has many uses)
Lantern(s) (including fuel, mantles, funnel, batteries as necessary)
    Tent stove
    Folding chairs, stools,
    Ice chest
    Beverage/water jugs
    Zip-loc bags
    Garbage bags
    Emergency Gear
    Band-Aids
    Gauze pads
Adhesive tape and /or REX/RUSS tape
    Aspirin
    Tweezers
    Needle
    Moleskin
    Single-edge razor blade
    Antacid
    Ace bandage
    Diarrhea medication
    Cold medication
    Laxative
    Bandages
    Sunburn relief
    Thermometer
    Sting kill swabs
    Eye drops
    Scissors
    Cortisone (anti-itch) cream
    Antibiotic cream
    Antihistamine such as Benadryl
    Amenities

I will provide a complete Kitchen. More ice chests and water jugs help matters
We will set up a remote shower and potty location

Feel free to add to this list if you see something I've missed.

    Will,

I take It we will be packing this stuff up via a 4-wheeler or something? This will be something new to me, we've always packed In by foot and packed accordingly to that.

Another thing I've always done too on my elk hunting trips Is bring an extra tent to throw your hunting stuff and supplies In. I know I'll be doing that. One other thing too that Isn't a bad Idea Is bring a whistle with you too If you get turned around real bad and lost. If anyone Is the type of person that gets real nervous when lost this could save your ass.

So I'm way late to join the party here but that's just how I roll. I'm putting in for a draw area in WY and if I don't pull that tag (68% drawing odds) I am most definitely coming to join the ruckus that will become this camp. I applied for a new job last night and already requested these dates off, haha! How ridiculous is that? I just don't see how elk hunting combined with excessive snoring, sleep walking, weird food and the company of a certain said "gentleman" wouldn't be enjoyable and most memorable! With my two pairs of boots, I'm also bringing two cameras. I would hate to miss one moment of the shenannigans :)

Good thoughts Steve, everyone bring a radio. I will have extras...
We will be able to drive to base camp. We will set out in different directions from there.

    Welcome aboard Pity(Miss-Jessica)!

And Russell, pay close attention-plan accordingly. If by chance we can get the pommie to sit in the middle and play a game of wooden spoons with us, we need to be prepared. I'll let you go first.

    Will,
Where does one start with acquiring the proper maps?
Obviously would like something packable for compass use...but also something on pc (even google earth possibly) to study beforehand and become familiar with...and know nearest roads/trails, both to stay away from when hunting, and to go towards if getting dark.
And then potentially something on GPS if it has the capability.

    Any info much appreciated!

Just helping with ideas on the gear list

calls, make sure you have extras of the ones you like & use most (and makesure you practice them)

Make sure you have a small "bow tool kit" Serving thread, extra loops, extra screws, allen wrenches, pins or the FO to replace. Bow master bow presses travel well.

practice shooting with your day pack/back pack on.
Hydration bladder for your day pack are priceless(at least for me)

I've never wished anyone bad luck at drawing a tag so, as tempting as it is, I won't start here... good luck!

Good call Ryan, thanks for the input!

    Matt, here's a link:

    http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=M...=39.586399&longitude=-106.430298&geocode=CITY

Find Redcliff and proceed down highway 24 until you reach NF- Road 705 (on the west side of 24). In the past, we have camped right where 705 meets 24. It's a great level spot and most vehicles can get to this location (critical for those without 4 wheel drive). This would be the epicenter. From here, we will hunt both sides of Highway 24 (all directions). Some of us will go up 705, some up Homestake Rd, some towards the Camp Hale summer huts (http://www.camphale.org/History/History.htm), etc.

Russ, no worries mate, I'm just setting the tone....
