Rex got up above camp (11K+ feet) yesterday and gave me a call on his cell. He says camp is set up but temp.s are warm and the critters are laying low. He's yet to spot an elk. That could be good news though. If we do get a cold snap while there things are going to heat up fast!

    Airport Luggage

Has anyone travelled with a Badlands 2200 as cabin luggage before? Just wondering if it will get through security screening having a internal frame. I don't wanna leave it at the security desk 'cause they won't let me on the flight with it!!

Daryl and I will be heading out Wed Morning from Minnesota. Should be in camp around noon Thursday and ready for evening hunt.

A friend of mine was out hunting in CO last week with a guy he's known since high school who lives there. Took him to his honey hole and they got into some bulls. He had multiple bulls in sight but said the oak brush was so thick it was hard to move on them. Then he twisted his knee bad and his hunt was over. Of course, he couldn't devulge the honey hole but those spots are out there!! Look forward to meeting you all.

Camp update (got back home late last night)

Camp is set and ready for action!

I picked Matt (Excel) up from DIA Saturday afternoon. He's already seen both deer and Elk since he has been here. Had an elk pass him at 40 but could not get a shot.

Most of Saturday and Sunday were used stowing and setting up gear for everyone's arrival.

We used Sunday mornning to hunt (everyone got to hunt until noon). I took Grant. We managed to get into some awesome sign...it's a little crunchy and we weren't too quiet. Grant rolled his ankle on Saturday so quiet was an issue. He'll be better by week's end...we saw some great stuff though. There were plenty of fresh tracks and wallows! we followed someone's blood trail...the deer must not have been hit that hard. We eventually lost it.

    Things people need to bring:

-Pillow/sleeping bag (below zero temps each morning we were there)
-I need 20 pound propane tanks
-I need two propane lanterns or similar
-If you have a plastic termal/travel cup bring it (less dishes to do)
-Cot it you're driving (right now I have a sleeping spot for 16 people). We need about ten more cots. The tents can sleep 25.....tent trailer 4.....Rex's trailer 4. Therefore, we have plenty of room.
    -Photo albums and magazines
    -folding chairs

    That's it for now.......

Yep, water was skimmed with ice. 0 degrees celsius

One more thing. I left a week's supply of food with Matt. It may be enough for two to three guys. So, if you're arriving early, you might want to considered bringing more grub. I will be there Friday night with the rest of the week's food supply...games meat, et al.

Will do. I've got some bear burgers from last year and some good beef I'll bring along.

    Will...Wow...you da Man!
I thought you just had one of those pop-tents you just throw in the air and it unfolds itself:)

That camp makes me think - "if you build it, they will come"

Going to be a ball...should be leaving Friday early...arrive late afternoon/evening.

    Matt,

We erected three of those portable 10' x 20' PVC garages side by side. We'll use one to stow gear, one to dine in, and the third as the cooking galley. Then we set up a 16' x 20' canvas wall tent (two total) to each side of the main core. Each tent is equiped with a gas heater and can accomodate 11 people. I have an 8' x10" wall tent on stand by. A potty was dug...a shower enclosure built...fire ring...game pole. It was quite the construction process. I'm so glad I had some people here early to help!

Just because I can't leave well enough alone I went and put a new sight on my bow last night and got it dialed in out to 60. Seems like a minuscule task for the weekend compared to setting all that stuff up. Thanks guys! See ya in a couple days!
