You can feed and keep him warm when you get here Mark! He and his 2999 estimated friends aren't going anywhere.

Last June I was weighing in at 235, but lost 50 lbs by my hunt the end of August. Right now I'm holding 190 pretty steady, but will likely be at 185 in August/September.

I'm in an aerobics class 4 days a week and run 3 miles two to three times a week (sprint as much as I can). I've also added some light weights - as much as the shoulder will allow. I have a copy of the P90X workout and have been doing the ab-ripper once a week, but think I'll just dive in and try to do the whole 90-day program. It's tough, but well worth it.

Last year in the Shirley Basin we camped at about 5000 feet - way higher than the 700 feet here in Indiana - and I didn't notice a change at all. I think 5000 feet isn't enough to give you a good test. I did quite a bit of hiking that week - no problems.

    J,

We'll go see him together. Vail is a stone throw from where we are.

    Dave,

I doubt you'll see him stalking you. If you do, wet your pants-soiling them makes a much larger mess for the coroner to clean up!

    Sounds like a plan, Will.

Bought my pack, today. Just ordered a Badlands Diablo from Joe @ Prarie Traditions. Looks like a good size.....has a 105oz. hydration bladder....and (I think) an internal frame.

The max1 camo isn't my favorite......but it'll do. Looking forward to gettin it loaded up and doing some hiking/running with it on.

Guys, not sure who has or doesn't have maps, but I thought I'd post up links to the BLM maps..... If you call the office, in CO, the maps are cheaper than ordering them online, just and FYI. LEADVILLE is the section map we'd want for this area.

See top bullet where the $4.00 price is listed, and use that phone number to order...

    http://www.blm.gov/co/st/en/BLM_Resources/public_room/map_info.html

    Here's the Map Directory....

    http://www.blm.gov/pgdata/etc/medialib/blm/co/resources/map_information.Par.82441.Image.-1.-1.1.jpg

And I believe if I remember correctly, the marker on this map is about where Camp will be....

    EDIT....Better....:D

    Doug,

The maker is a little north of the camp site. We will pitch tents right were it says, "gravel pit"-on the south side of road 705.

    Jeff/Will,
If you don't mind - keep me in the loop on your plans for this...I would rearrange my plans to shake Tred's hand! Huge fan of his show...about the only TV celeb that I respect...just absolutely love his positive energy and his "quit whining and make it happen" attitude. To see what he's doing now after his disabilities just confirms that he wasn't blowin' smoke. I caught his newest episode last week, deep sea sail-fishing with 2lb test in wheelchair...one scene where he's fighting this sailfish he looks at the camera and says "nursing home my a$$"...some of his episodes I've watched 5+ times...just love it...

...my first thought when I planned this trip was...Eagle, CO - Longbow Ranch, I'd love to stop by...

I sent an email to the author of the article. He received it and replied that he'd forward it to Tred. We'll see. You never know in these situations how someone may feel about visitors. If he's up for it, though....I wanna go. I'll let you know how it pans out.

Jeff, I did the exact same thing....birds of a feather I guess. I would thoroughly love to give hunting with Tred a try. My son is sort of in the same boat-having suffered a stroke in uterus.

Just applied for a Mule deer tag, gues its a case of wait and see!?

Ill be using my RedHead RT AP bow and rifle pack. Holds the bow nicely for hiking and stores plenty for an overnight stay with 2531cubic inch (40ltr) of space and camelback compatible. It is also good quality, I chose it over the Badlands, and is relatively cheap at $69.99

Still working hard at the gym getting my cardio levels up. I will be bringing my Badlands Superday for day to day stuff as well as my Badlands 4500 for any spike camps that may come about. The countdown continues.

That's a NICE pack, I looked at them, but I have a Stalker, that does what I need it to, so I couldn't talk myself into "needing" another. Those Redheade Packs are pretty decent though, don't let the name or price fool you. I picked up the Stalker on clearance for $15!!! A 2500ci pack w/ a comfortable internal frame, plenty of space, and it came w/ a hydration bladder too. It's served me well for almost 5 yrs. now.
