    I have this bow....

It's a Schafer Silvertip. I sold the lower (photo) limbs, last year. I still have the olive rosewood limbs with the antler tips.

My second Silvertip will be here in a few weeks. It'll look much like this one (only it will have the 19" riser). I'm going to use the new riser with the "old" limbs....and the new limbs with the old riser. Both bows are 50# @ 28". The "new" bow will make a 50# bow (at my DL....and be 62"_. My current riser with the new limbs will make the same 52# bow (again, at my DL) I've been shooting (60"). Can't wait to get it and start shooting.

    Hey Will....

I'm gonna bring my "bigger" camera. I wanted to know if there would be an electrical outlet available to us, to charge the battery pack??????

Looked at an 8G card, today. That oughta do it!

I'm starting to look at gear upgrades. I am thinking a Badlands Monster Fanny pack, but I don't know anything about GPS's.

Will the Monster be enough to hold everything I need?

    Jeff,

I have a 12v dc to 120v ac converter that plugs into my truck lighter. It works like a charm to charge batteries...

The new regulations are out. I will go through them and tell everyone which codes to apply for. Pending.

Just got back form a pig hunt. Dubbs, Miss Jessica, and I kicked some piggy butt!

I had the Monster Fanny for a while. It will have plenty of room for all your gear. I could of done light weight over nighters with it.

Miss Jessica is writing the story w/ pics up today. This was her debut hog hunt. I do not want to steal her spot light. Yes, I'm having my pig made into sausage. I will save plenty for September. Between Rob's salmon, halibut and my yak, buffalo, and hog, I 'd say you guys are going to eat well-at least!

Personally I would go bigger. I always head out with enough to stay dry and spend two days without returning back to camp should. Not that I intend to do that, but this may be the difference if you become lost.

Ok, for those interested in deer tags. The code to apply for is: D-E-035-01-A. Now for the bad news. The price for a tag bumped to $329 (elk is still $544 for an either sex tag-but jumped to $354 for a cow tag). For those interested in bear, the tag code is: B-E-035-U1-A (over the counter w/ cap...first come, first serve). This tag price jumped to $354 Also. I'm not sure when the bear tags go on sale. I will find out and post that date. Remember, you must have completed a hunter ed program to apply for tags or purchase them once you're here. The application deadline is April 6th.

Sucks. But I'm not going to let $79 determine whether I attempt to arrow a mule deer or not.

    Thanks, Will.

    When can I apply?

Trying to catch up here.......lol. Like Ohio I've been using the X-Scent baselayers, only because they don't stink after wearing a few days and they are comfy. No, they don't beat hunting the wind but I think they do at least help. I also use a scent killing spray.

As for tags, I am going with either sex elk and trying for a bear tag. That price jump on the bear tags really sucks, oh well. Also, don't take this wrong anybody but I've decided its a bull elk or no elk. Of course that could change if a nice cow offered a real good shot opportunity..........lol.

I'm going with my Cabelas Realtree AP Microtex pants/shirt and my Predator fleece and lightweight outfits. Don't need boots thank goodness.

Also, for a backpack my tried and true but cheap Fieldline. Its light, comfy, durable and carries plenty of items. Should be able to even pack some meat in the main compartment, but I'll probably bring a standard meatpacking frame with sack just in case. That will stay in camp till needed.

I was only slightly considering a Mulie tag...so with the price jump I will pass for sure - I always envisioned my Mule Deer hunt being an early season - velvet type hunt at higher elevations...so I'll just focus solely on Elk this trip.

CougarMag - I did pick up a pair of the Cabelas Microtex pants(AP as well)...and really think I'm going to like them, quiet, quick drying, and appear very durable(and were half-price 1st of the year). Also got some Space Rain Ultra rain gear during this sale - read a lot of good reviews in different mags...packs down very small/light.

Still need the boots - and need soon to get broken in. Ended up not liking the Danner Pronghorns - not sure I can deal with that high of a cut boot, need a lower cut hiking boot type.

Won't be a Mule deer tag for me, and I won't regret it, I didn't last year when I had to pass on a dozen or so. I'm gonna be there for ELK, and ELK first and foremost. I'd consider the bear tag, but elk is my real desire to be there. And yes, I may be kicking myself over the bear tag like I did last year when I had the opportunity at the big cinnamon, but that's a decision I can live with.
