I KNOW they are. The ocean keeps us well moderated; cool in the summer, warm in the winter.

    Rob...please tell me that's round trip?

On the bright side...it's a little bit cheaper for you to hunt Sheep, Moose, Blacktail, Grizz, etc., etc. than most of us...IL is pretty dang boring when the only BIG Game is Whitetail and Turkey (yes, I cannot believe they call turkey BIG Game - Chicago guys must have wrote the books:D)

Turkey are "big game" here, too. I know why they are. Imagine if you could come here and purchase a small game (out of state) license.....and hunt turkeys for 5 days.;)

It is RT. I'm sure the Aussie's are going to trump me bigtime on that. I'm looking at $2300 to get there in 2011.

I've hunted NR turkeys as small game somewhere... I think it was NY. 2 turkeys for like $100 or something to that effect if I remember right. I guess I'm going to find out again in May since that's where all my frequent flier miles are going.

$2300 Rob? Ouch! I haven't looked that far ahead...

Steve, I not sure the 2010 regs have come out yet. Be careful here. The deer area to apply for might be area 44. With this tag in hand, you might be able to hunt units 44, 444, and 45. Let me see the regs before you apply . Same goes for everyone else. we have time. let's make sure we do it right.

Yeah airfares from here can be pretty pricey but there is good deals to be had. Flights pop every now and then for about $1000 RT from Melbourne to LA. Im fortunate for this trip to have enough Frequent flyer points(Taken me five years to save enough) to get to LA and back without paying BUT I cannot find a seat to get back after the hunt. Latest date so far is the 23rd. Looks like I will just have to pick up some more overtime and pay my way back. Out of interest does anyone know what a Flight from either San Fransico to Denver or LA to Denver usually costs? One thing I do know is though is come rain, hail or shine I will be in the Rockies come September 18

As much as i'd love my first American Big Game to be an Elk , i'm now really concidering the Muley tag as well .

    Will

Homestake was a good place to be looking for the Muley's wasn't it ?

I'm with you on that. It seems a shame not to apply for one, especially as they may be a few around. Just got to save harder to pay for it all now!

    Dave,

The fine print specifically states, "there's a deer behind every bush". Yes, Homestake would be a good place to look. I've seen a mess of them going up No Name Road. We are going to hunt the east side of the highway this year...we'll do what we can to find them.

I don't know if I can swing all three tags. I'm thinking elk and bear if I can get enough side work lined up. Are there bear behind every tree also? LOL!
