How fortunate I am to have my own land to hunt. Mine. All mine. Granted it is only 40 acres, it produces what I need. It has deer, deer food, water, bedding year round. Just rambling, but I know a lot of folks who would give a left one for their own land. I am happy.:)

Yep, I'm very fortunate. Although, as I'm finding, sometimes if your needs change outside what your land provides, it's good to have other options as well.

You are frotunate indeed. I consider myself very lucky too. I may not own land myself, but my direct relatives own enough to keep me from wanting to buy any :D

And I'm the only one who bowhunts....even better!

I bought ground, overpaid for it due to proximity to family ground and sometimes regret it. I doubt I'll ever sell it, but if I had it to do over again, I wouldn't. I only get much use of the ground 3 or 4 months a year, but the payments come due every damn month lol.

i feel very fortunate i personally havent had to buy any my dad bought it all and put it in a trust and now it cant be sold without the all direct family signing off and i know for sure ill never sign and neither will my 3 kids so they wont have to worry about finding a place to hunt either. and it is also nice to be able to put food plots in wherever and not have to ask anybody, but it is a-lot of work we have 458 acres in jo daviess county and 420 in new mexico on unit 6a.

p.s. plenty of room for friends and family. and a good place to kick back and have a few also

I hunt our family farm of 365 acres. I share it with 3 others during bow season, but there's usually around 15 people out there during shotgun season and the deer really get knocked (big and small).

It's nice during bow season, but even with 4 people spread out over that much land, there are times when it gets crowded, or there are misunderstandings on where each other has "claimed" an area.

For me I would prefer to have my own 80-100 acres that I can go out and hunt, hang as many stands as I want and at which location I please. It's nearly impossible to plant any food plots at our farm now since no one else wants to put the work in, but will feel the need to take advantage of them being in. I don't take any of this land for granted, as we have been VERY close to losing the whole thing over the last few years. One day it will be gone, but until then I still have access to some prime Illinois hunting land.

Other than my children or my brother's children, ours is strictly bowhunted. I do not take anyone in there that I can not trust with my life. Nothing I hate worse than guys who don't bowhunt rambling around and stinking the place up, pushing deer and making them uncormfortable. I am in the process of getting a dozer or back-hoe in there after season to open up a few more trails and clear a few places for food plots. Hope it all works out like I have it planned anyway.

i am blessed with all the land i am able to hunt. it is really hard to fathom hunting only public lands, but people who pull it off, and do it well, well, they have the most sale safe hunting grounds in the world lol

You are fortunate Bobby. as you know I lease. I lost my last lease when the owner sold. It was 6 miles from home. I now drive 2 hours to my present lease. Who knows how long that will last. That owner could sell at any time. I hope to own my own hunting land some day.

Yes having land is a true blessing for a bowhunter, something I am very very grateful for. Nothing I enjoy more besides spending time working on the habitat at our farm.. Except for the huntng of course.

You are very fortunate. I wish I had my own land to hunt and manage. I hunt A LOT of public land (lots of hunters during gun season) and a few small pieces of private land.

I feel blessed too. I own 41 acres where I live. Its all woods, and decent hunting - we just don't have big bucks in the area I live. The adjacent 62 acres is owned by my inlaws, so we really have 103. Still, its nice to have about 10 different stands out....all over the place, and I can do whatever I want on my piece. I agree with GMMAT...I have one section (the only thick area) that I NEVER go in during the season, and rarely during the rest of the year. They don't bed full time on our property, they bed in my neighbors cedar thicket...but when they are here, they go to my 5ac thicket.

Its also VERY convenient - like last Saturday when my plans changed unexpectedly around 4:30pm. I decided to hunt, and was in a tree at 5pm. Was back home 10mins after dark, undressed and eating supper. Alot to say for that - and it keeps the wife and kids happier too. I also have access to 1000ac that is my good friends uncles land, but its a tad over 1hr away. We lease it and have hunted it for 20yrs...but its not always convenient with kids, sports, and life going on. Save your money and buy your own, they ain't making any more.

I hear ya guys--18 years of hunting public lands here in Virginia makes me agree with you guys. I hunt them 95% of my hunts. And I am lucky that I hunt one of the better public land areas. Even then, it has become a grind that my body and mind are starting to get tired of every year. I love the large expanse of woods and the adventures, but my god, for once I would love to step out my backdoor and hunt.
