Congrats to him, that is a GREAT bull!!!! I sure wish I'd seen something like that in CO when I was there.
Doug, I totally thought it was going to be you in the pic! Call me tomorrow and fill me in on your trip!
Hey fellas! IT WAS ME!!! I just got here to Will's house for nice and much appreciated hot shower. Thanks for all the congrats! I will have to tell the story later when I get back home. I'm exhausted! I still can't believe how the whole thing went down. I promise to give the most descriptive story as I can. Will is a top notch fella. Thanks Will !!!!!! Thank you Greg for creating a little suspense, it made me smile when all I had strength to do was die. Thanks for all the congrats! Don't worry, I get the story up here along with more pics! Waid
Fantastic Elk , Nice shooting Waid . He's a dandy alright ;p Will , is that near where we saw that 5x6 last year ? .
The elk is black because of the rich black organic top soil we have in some part of Colorado. Remember, this bull was shot just after he exited from his wallow. He was covered with mud and urine-stunk to high heaven. What the picture doesn't depict is the climb Waid had to make to get this monster out of the woods. For every eight feet of horizontal distance Waid had to climb ten feet vertically. I'm guessing that bull grossed 750 pounds. Packing that weight is one thing but doing it above 10,000 feet is another. I guarantee Waid's lungs and legs felt like they were on fire! Dave- killed him between no name and homestake. Waid packed him uphill 700 feet in elevation. Got word my sister arrowed another one this morning. I'll be back in the woods tomorrow...
