I didnt kill him so as far as I know he is still out there running around. I have been having bad dreams for the last 3 weeks about not shooting him. I was drawn back on him twice and it just didnt feel right. Not sure why but it didnt. If he makes it through the rest of the hard winter and then EHD this summer he could really blow into a giant.
Yes our season is over. I hunted him one time after that footage was shot and then just decided to give it up. I have a decent idea of where he is staying so I hope we can find his sheds. I would think that there is a decent chance he will get killed next year unless his personality changes. He likes to move in the day light and has a unusually large home range. Someone will get him
Good luck with him mate. That was great to watch. Although it would have been better to watch you slip an arrow into him.
We have around 250 acres on our side of the farm that we hunt. Its the farm that we own along with the neighbors that I take care of. We share all of it as in anyone can hunt were they want on either farm. The farm is a mile and a quarter long but it is very narrow in spots. The neighbors own 700 acres on the west side so its continuous 950 acres of managed land. We have had pics of him on all corners of our farm along with the neighbors. One day he went another mile to the north and one of our close buddys almost killed him. I would say his home range was around 2 square miles last year. That is a pretty large home range for a deer around here. He is the only big deer that we have on the whole farm. We lost 6 shooters to EHD. THat might of had something to do with his large home range since he didnt have any competition.
That makes sense he can roam where he wants since he doesn't have to fight for dominance. I was hoping he didn't roam to far from your property. If its meant to be it will be!!
Yeah I am curious any sightings or trail cam pics since you shot him? I hope he makes it through and you get a chance for redemption!!
Clinton, why did you guys name that deer Ernie? That's not generally a code name for a monster buck. Did you go to school or work with some huge, fat, Goliath of a man named Ernie?
Guys, No pics of him yet but I haven t checked cams for a week and a half. With the amount of snow and the temps that they are predicting for the next to weeks the deer should go to the food pretty hard. Im going to put a few more cams out tomorrow ahead of this storm. Hopefully I can get few pics of him or find his sheds. I know It would sure help me sleep at night. As far as his name. Ernie was my grandpas best friend and was the previous owner of the farm that borders mine. Ill try to keep everyone updated if I get any pics or happen to see him.
