Well maybe not a lie but that damned red measuring tape came back to haunt me. In 2005 I had shot a good buck with bow. Both Tyler and I had measured since I was in the HNI bowhunting contest. We came up within /8's of an inch on it so I took the lowest measurement to be safe. We green scored it at 160 1/8. It was a fairly simple rack to measure. Tonight for the heck of it... I was curious what he would net score. I knew there might be a little shrinkage as I have never scored him again since the first time. The wife helped me. We came up with 154 1/8. I am going no way. He isn't going to lose 6 inches to dry out. So I double checked my measurements again and rechecked the math. Both were spot on. 154 1/8... 6 inches off. I am racking my brain trying to figure out how both of us could have measured wrong the very first time and been within /8's of an inch of each other... yet I am 6 inches off now. Then it dawned on me... that f-ing red tape!!! Some of you might remember me whining about it a few years ago when we had remeasured some sheds and found out the tape was off. On a 70 inch shed it read over 2 inches higher then it should with all the measurement. I never even thought about this buck... that we might have used the red tape to measure it. Anyways now I've got to go back and remeasure my rifle buck and a few older sheds. By the way the buck netted 132 1/8. Tim
I got me one of them offical Jim Dandy Handy P&Y 1/4" tapes and steel cable! Back when I was young and working out all the time I had a cloth tape the wife must have washed or something, it would always give me an inch. I liked that tape!
I always knew there was something about you :D 154... 160... Either way a slammer buck! Order a P&Y tape and steel cable from their website. Thats's what I use.
Thats ok Tim, I've seen him first hand, hes a STUD.. and I would have never guessed he would only bring 154.. hes a definate SHOOTER!
Well, this changes everything! Only a 154"...geez Tim, and I thought you were a big buck killer. I'm disappointed. Two men measured it the first time...we all know men overestimate measurements. I'm surprised it was only off 6".
