...now. Thanks to some help from Will - and a good dose of PSE at Elk camp...I've made the switch to a PSE BowMadness! Still couldn't jump away from the Single Cam yet. Just got my Carbon Force Radial X-Weaves made up on Saturday...so still need to tune & sight in bow. But I have ran a bunch of arrows through it this weekend (my shoulder is screaming). Here's what I got - and my initial reactions: 2011 PSE BowMadness, shooting at 70lbs, 29" draw PSE Vertex quiver Pete Shepley Long Range sight NAP Apache rest Limbsaver stabilizer The BowMadness feels great in my hand and I really like the slim grip. It draws very easily for me - and I really like the feel when it breaks over and locks solidly into full draw. I have not chono'd, but it is really zinging the arrows - anxious to see my pin gap reduced. And most important - this bow is very quiet! Also very cool that this bow can adjust draw length from 25-30 inches without a bowpress (in 1/2 inch increments). I played with 28-29" and settled on 29". Might even go 29 1/2...just nice that you can try all options with arrows and tuning...just a simple allen screw. I have shot quiver off for years - but wanted to get back to a 2-piece mounted quiver. It's a must when hunting out West - and I seem to find myself doing more still-hunting to/from deer stand these days - again, easier to have arrows at the ready on side of bow. I really like the Vertex quiver and how adjustable it is for so many different positions and angles to accommodate any arrow length. The Pete Shepley long range sight looks like it will be what I have been wanting for some time. First, a larger pin guard for better target view - I would shoot no pin guard if the pins could handle hunting conditions - and Second, multiple pins and bottom slider pin for 70-100 yard shooting. A big part of our deer camp is mid-day broadhead shooting at 70+ yards - just for fun. NAP Apache: so far the Apache seems to be both very solid, and quiet operation (two reasons I bought it). A downside to some could be the weight - heaviest rest I have ever handled. My only complaint is the arrow entry gap being on top - make sense for capture reasons, but slows down arrow loading process - especially if you are trying to get a quick shot off. If the rest tunes fine and I keep it, I believe I will cut off the upper left part of the enclosure to allow for easier/quicker arrow loading in which you can snap nock on string first (so arrows can enter from the 10:00 position much like a whisker biscuit). Some quick pics:
Just make sure the line on the inner cam slide is lined up with the right letter and the draw stop matches for 29" draw should be C and C. Otherwise they are very very good bows i just bought one myself. Mine is set at 74 pounds at 28inches getting ready to get the Apache drop away for myself.
Good looking rig! I felt the same way about arrow loading in the Apache when I first got it, but quickly adjusted and honestly it hasn't been a problem since then. I slide the arrow into the rest and then knock it, and can do so just as quickly as nocking first and then dropping it onto the rest. Give it a week or so of shooting and you won't even realize it anymore.
Nice Bow Matt , haha hey it's a "PSE Bowmattness" ...... ok i'm shallow lol , but I found it funny for about 3 seconds :D . I remember you looking at all that PSE gear , it was only a matter of time before you were converted .... with a bit of help and friendly persuasion from Will and Justin . Hope you get that Bull Elk with her this Fall , if not I'm back in 2012 , maybe see you then . Have fun with that new bow Matt
the apache is a really good rest full containment does take a bit of getting use to but its worth it. I love that site. looks like I am gooding to have to find one and try it out.
I just noticed this but you need to adjust your vibracheck backstop it should be touching the string.
Man, way to bust a guys chops.... :D Nice bow Matt, glad you like it. As far as the shoulder goes, don't be afraid to back it out to 65# or so, extend the life of those shoulders.... I know I've dropped most of my stuff to mid to lower 60's as my shoulders haven't gotten any younger, and with a 29" DL, we can make up the speed/energy a little on the DL.. As a HOYT guy I'd have to say I'm EXTREMELY disappointed in you, but as long as your happy.... Sad, it's sort of like seeing a guy out cheating on your sister..... :D
Muddslinger...it is set properly - I actually noticed that in the pics as well - it's just the pressure the arrows are applying to the string when propping it up. I appreciate any and all criticism...if you see anything else out of whack - let me know!
Doug - I understand...I shot 3 different Hoyts over about 17 years - they did me well. But that was mostly a product of what shops carry around here. Until recently, you had 2 options - Hoyt or Matthews (and no way would I shoot a Matthews ...j/k ). Heck, I'm sure I could take any major brand and be happy with it - this BowMadness just "felt right" after slinging one arrow out of it. Doug - I shot 70lbs years back, and recently only 60lbs...if I only planned to hunt whitetail I'd stick to 60lbs (it blew through all my deer this year)...but simply due to hopes of hunting bigger game and wanting to reduce pin gap for longer shots - I jumped back to 70lbs. The weight if fine for me - shoulder was just sore since I hadn't actively shot since Oct.
Steve, thanks... 32" (although I"ll say it looks longer in the pics), 3.85 lbs, IBO 323fps ...trade you for your truck
Justin...agreed...I'll give it plenty of time to get used to it. ...But...if I have second guesses that it could cost me a quick follow up shot when I'm scatter brained over a Monster Bull or Buck...no big deal to just chop off that top/left piece at the 10:00 position - I don't forsee that piece of containment truly helping me keep an arrow on the bow anyway. Otherwise - I am impressed with how quiet this rest is...and if I drop my bow out of tree...I'm sure that rest will be just fine:D
Sorry wasn't trying to down the rig i have the same bow i was just saying since most PSE dealers dont know how to set this bow up, because they changes design since last year.
