I have a brand new z7. I am deadly accurate with it, BUT it is out of tune. I took it to the bow shop and the owner shot it and it was tuned for him. When I shot it, it was out of tune. So do I need to tune it to my shooting of it? I am hitting the target with field points and Rage 2 but when I switch to G5 3blades it is hitting way right. With my last bow the broadheads were dead on enough to dispatch squirrels on the ground at 40yds. I am having lots of problems all of a sudden.
If I had to make one guess without knowing your specs I would say the terrible Mathews grip is to blame. They are designed to be shot one way and one way only.
On the Mathews grip your hand has to placed in a specific place or else the bow will torque. I'll try to explain it as best I can without actually being there. With your arm extended your knuckles should come off the bow at about a 45 degree angle with a low wrist grip. Basically the center line of the grip should run from the base of your thumb the the outside of your wrist, if this makes sense. This, I have found, is the sweet spot for most Mathews. I will try to find a picture to better illustrate this.
I have noticed that the arrow has lots of flex as it is flying towards target. Does that mean I need to go up to the 350. I hate to buy more of the Maximas. They are not cheap.
Yes, you are underspined and will need to go to a stiffer arrow. Decreasing your poundage and shortening your arrow will stiffen it up but I'm not sure if it will be enough in this case.
Well that sucks. The bow shop owner told me 250 would be fine. Just goes to show even the owners don't know it all. $150 is what I think these arrows were for a dozen. That sucks cause money has for some reason quit growing on trees around my place.
Then tell the owner to swap you 250s for 350s because it isnt the proper arrow. If he values you as a customer, he will work with you
Yea,,,that ain't happening! btw I am no longer his customer. He makes me feel uncomfortable when I am in his store.
Get some less expensive arrows until you know what the bow wants. They will still hit what you are aiming at.
Click on my link and check out Harvest time archery. I shoot the HT-2 and have been hitting some nice groups with them. I think the GPI are perfect for hunting/3D.
First things first.... For a bow to be tuned, it has to be tuned to the person who is going to shoot it. The shop owner doesn't know what he's talking about if he recommended those 250's unless you told him you were going to shoot that bow at 60-62#, I'd be a little ticked at him. Get you some RIGHT spined arrows, and start the tuning process over. First zero a pin, then do a walkback tune to center your rest for the most part, then get some BH's (real BH's not mechanicals) and BH tune the bow. In the end, you'll find that you'll shoot even FP's better. As for spending $150 on Maximas, don't spend $150, go get a dozen Cabelas' Carbon Stalker Extremes for half that price and have just as good an arrow. Get the 6580's and cut them 28.5" to 29", tip them out in 100 or 125gr tips, and you should be fine. It's ALWAYS easier to shoot an over spined arrow vs. an underspined arrow!!!
Well I broke down and bought the Maxima 350's from a different bow shop.. The old one is DEAD to me! So something funny happened when setting my sights. Where as I figured that with heavier arrows FPS would go down.. Not so. My FPS went up. I am shooting flatter now and also I paper tuned my bow tonight and I am ready to fine tune my sights tomorrow morning. Hopefully the wind will not be blowing 40mph as it was today.
THANK YOU for turning me onto Cabela's carbon arrows. I think its insane to spend 150+ on arrows when for 44 bucks i can get arrows that have 5 stars from 84 people who rage about them. Its just too bad theres no cabelas in VA
