So for a week and a half I have been checking the weather because I was finally going to go up north bowhunting for the first time this season. Right away it said that there was a good chance for rain on Sat. I figured that would change since it was so early. All week long it kept saying that it was going to rain Saturday and then they said Sunday too. I was beginning to think I was going to get totally rained out. Instead of leaving straight from work on Friday as usual I decided to leave my fully loaded truck at home and do the wait and see thing. Then I catch a break and they called off the rain on Sunday. OK, I figured that I would head up there late afternoon and at least get in a morning hunt and check the trail cams. Last night I watch the weather on TV and it looks like my area may clear up by Saturday afternoon. I check this morning and it look slike I may be able to get in an evening hunt now. I am going crazy with all these weather sites!!! I just want to hunt!! Sorry guys I just needed to vent to someone and my wife doesnt care. Whew!
I have found that WeatherUnderground has the best forcast for the Lake Superior influenced microcosm(up north here)...Weather CHannel sucks and NOAA is to widely regionalized but often pretty close.
Thanks, I will have to give that a shot. A friend told me about weatherbug and that didnt seem any better. I ususally use weather.com and accuweather.com.
I have an accuweather app on my phone that is location specific. It works amazing Sent from my Milestone X2 using Tapatalk 2
I understand the frustration but it wasnt that long ago we didnt have anything but the local tv news which is over a 100 miles away and didnt always reflect our weather and it certainly didnt give hour by hour wind direction. FWIW, I use the premium service ( its cheap) offered by the weather channel. I can preset 10 distinct areas. While nothing 100% accurate, it is pretty darn close. It amazing how well they nail the changes in wind direction on an hourly basis.
weather.com does no good for me here near the big lake...they will say its partly cloudy with no precip in the forecast and it's raining or snowing outside...they don't model for the lake effect we have and can't seem to get it right til about 30 miles south of us, or 50 miles east...same thing for up in Ontonogon Co north east of here - they just can't get it right for some reason...Accu-weather was a little better but still not even as close as the NOAA is for us. Also this is for spot specific forecasts I am talking about.
Thanks for all the good advice everyone. It is hard to believe that not long ago we didnt have any kind of decent weather forecasts to look at. I thought that I caught a break when the changed the forecast for Saturday evening for the better so I hustled up north and was able to get in an evening hunt. Unfortunately even though there wasnt anything on the radar there was a heavy mist the whole time. I didnt see anything and the woods was really loud with all the water dripping off the trees. Now it wasnt supposed to rain on Sunday so I figured that I would get in two hunts. I awoke to sound of rain and quickly checked the radar map on my phone and we were looked in solid for the day with rain. Totally bummed I packed up and went home. Atr least I got my trail cam pics. Although, there wasnt as many big deer on the cams that we have had the last couple years.
I also have this app....yesterday it said rain after 8pm well it rained all day and night. sent from my electronic carrier pigeon
The fricken weather channel app for my smartphone sucks bad. it takes forever, longer than the full site does. crazy thing is it gives you the option of going and using the full site but only after you wait for the whole stupid mobile site to load. Don't let the app run wild on your phone either. meaning, only let it run when you need it and not all the time. thing kept crashing and hogging up all the battery and power of the phone. nothing else really worked properly when this app was running...
accuweather for my location blows. Twice now it has said snow for my location and it has been in the 50's and sunny both times. It was saying east wind the other day so I thought I would be in good shape for hunting. Weather channel said NW wind. Needless to say, accuweather wasn't very accurate LOL
Sounds like your wife and I have a lot in common. What's her number? You're gonna be gone sat and sun you say?
