My sister wants me to spread the word. Last week at the ripe old age of 27 she felt a lump in her breast. She freaked out and went to the doctor the next day. Turns out she has breast cancer it's contained but it's still cancer. She met with the surgical staff on Monday and the decision to do a double mastectomy would be her best option for a number of reasons. There is no family history on either side of breast cancer, her age was another big factor because the chance of recurrence. Her and her husband haven't had any kids yet and would like to someday this is also a reason for the mastectomy it lowers the chances that she'll have to have chemo. She is strong and is going to kick this and she has great support around her.

Here is the message she wants to spread, have every women you know check themselves regularly. The doctors said it could have been in her for the last 6 years. A 21 year old with breast cancer makes you wounder. PLEASE GET THEM CHECKED

Prayers for your sister - My aunt went through this a few years ago and is now I believe 4 yrs + cancer free after a double mastectomy and chemo...A friend of mine also had a lump in his neck about the same time that turned out to be cancer. He thought it was only a swollen gland. He was lucky he went and had it checked as the Doc was on the ball and sent him to a specialist right away. He is alive and well after his surgery. Glad your sis caught this early enough and sure she will be fine. Kudos to her for thinking of others at this time!

Sorry to hear this. Sounds like she's got the right mindset to beat it .

Brings to mind an article I read. Did she tuck her cell phone in her bra often?

I don't know if she did or not, she doesn't seem like the type to do that.
