i used the octane hostage on my old bow but the brushes wore out to quick i dont care for the rest i have now its some crap i've never seen the arrow is falling off and i just dont like it. any recommendations?
those rests are terrible from what I have seen. Everyone has those brushes wear out fast and changing their point of impact. I just got me and a buddy the Trophy taker rest and love them. I have heard nothing but good things about the QAD as well.
Check out the NAP Apache. I used the biscuit for years, but have been shooting with the Apache for a couple of months and I'm really diggin it.
QAD makes a good rest, IMO if you want one spend the extra $ and get the Ultra rest pro. On the other hand the new NAP Apache is a great rest and it only cost about $60. I put one on my old golden eagle 32 about a month ago and i love it. It seems like im shooting that bow more then my hoyt. Both rests are tops.
i read where you said your golden eagle thats the bow i just traded for the"carbinehawk" i'm not familiar with this company are they pretty good bows? do they still make bows and what if anything can i do to improve it?
QAD is good as long as you buy the one that keeps it from bouncing back up. I went through a lot bs with the cheap one that did not have this feature. As for me I now I use the Scizzor rest by NAP and it works great for me on my Limbsaver DZ32 bow. T
How long did your brushes last on the Octane? I am in the same boat...my brushes are starting to get soft and I am hesitant to install the new set I have. Trying to make all my changes now/soon...
Bigbuck i can't honestly say one bad thing about that bow. They arent speed bows but they were made by Bear archery up until a few years ago, so that tells you they are quality. I got that bow new in 2003 and havent had a thing go wrong with it ever. A friend of mine shoots the same bow and he loves it too, so you didnt make a bad choice.
As for the Hostage rest... If your bottom brush is red than those are the old bristles. The redesigned and new ones will have a black one on the bottom and red ones for the top two. The black bristles are much stiffer than the red ones.
My Hostage Pro lasted for about a year before the brushes started to wear out. I replaced it with an NAP Apache and haven't looked back. I basically get the same full containment that I had with the Octane without worrying about brushes wearing out, or possible fletching clearance issues. Check out my full review of the Apache here: http://www.bowhunting.com/blog/post/NAP-Apache-Dropaway-Arrow-Rest-Review.aspx
No WAY!!! I just GAVE one away because it was JUNK!!! Biggest problem seems that it likes to bounce, or it drops too slow, but I had nothing but contact problems with the one I had. I can't speak for the ULTRA version, but I know that the cheaper version for me was JUNK!!! Maybe it's because the bow I had it one didn't have much shock on the shot or whatever, but I like a corded drop-away the is spring-loaded and falls because it's no longer being held up, not one that falls because of the concussion/shock when the bow is released. Trophy Taker and Shaffer are the rests I like best of what I've tried, and Golden Key makes a pretty good prong-style rest as far as that goes... I've NEVER been a fan of a WB style rest as they seem to eat up arrows faster than I want to have them re-fleteched.
Every Rest has it's issues, you just have to weigh what is important to you. For me it's 1.Simple 2.Realible 3.Easy to tune 4.Accurate(all rest on a tuned bow are accurate IMO) For me the hostage pro fit the bill, I have used the QAD in the past, great rest, but for me I wanted a rest with the least amount of moving parts. When one attached the string to the cable of the bow, I wonder of it tweaking the cam at all. If that makes a rest that is "attached" to the cable less forgiving on non solid shots. You have to figure out if the "weakness" of the rest is all right for you. For the hostage pro the weakness is the wear factor. For me a 30 second change ever year is not a big deal. For a rest like the QAD the weakness is the timing issue, it has to be checked to make sure the arm is coming back at the correct time. It has another weakness IMO, is the rope being attached to the cable. Good luck
I have this one and its been a great rest. However I took it off to give the NAP Quicktune 360 that I got at the G2G a run. I have nothing bad to say about the Hostage Pro rest though and may even go back to it at some point. The bottom black brush was beginning to show signs of wear after well over a year of heavy use.
another vote for the QAD ultra. Not the cheapie, you have to have the Ultra HD. I have installed about 5 of em. Only had issues on one.
I think I've ran Limbdrivers on my last seven bows... with the exception of both my Destroyer 340s: I've got Tripwires on them, and I really like them, too.
