Day started off with a 2.5 year 4 pt going by at 25 yards. Then a young 3 pt came by me at about 10 yards. The riot started after that. He spotted the doe decoy and charged up to her. The wind fluttered her had when he was about 2 yards from her and startled him a bit so he runs over by me and stands there for a couple minutes just staring at her. He was 10 feet from me and I was trying not to laugh ot loud. He would walk a little closer to her and the wind would flutter her head and he would run right back to me. After the third attempt he head me laugh. The big stare down was on. I decided to have some fun with him and started making kisses sounds for a lack of better a term. He got nervous and stomped his foot a couple times. The I mouth grunted at him and he would calm right down. More kissy sounds and grunts and soon neither bother him. He would look , lick his nose and smell the weeds. Once and a while he would give the decoy a look but he was pretty much focussed on me.

I slowly reach for the can call and flipped it. He would look at me and then stare at the doe. I did that a couple times and got bored with it. The next move was to move a bit to see what he would do. I moved my head and he went on alert and started stomping his foot. I mouth grunted at him and he would calm right down and look at me or the doe. Keep in mind he is still standing 10 feet away and I am on the ground. I decide to really mess with him and slowly lit a smoke. Took a big drag and blow a big cloud of smoke out. He would watch the smoke blow away from me. Never got nervous. Got done with the smoke... damn near choke a couple times as I was trying to not to laugh. I reach for me cell phone. This has been going on for 25 minutes now and he is still not leaving and still 10 feet away.

He finally got the balls to walk up to the doe decoy and smelled her. Course the wind flutter her head and right back to me he came. LOL I grabbed the phone and called TJ. The buck finally walked away as I was leaving a message. He could hear me talking but still wasn't that alarmed but finally figured out he shouldn't be there. :)

I didn't think my morning could get any better other then shooting a big buck. 5 or so minutes after the 3 pt left... I heard something crashing though the corn heading right for me. I was just grabbing for the bow when a really nice 3.5 year old 5 pt jumped in the row I was hiding in. He was coming full bore and slammed on the brakes when he noticed me. He slid to a halt not 10 yards from me. I think we both had the same expression on our face... Holy **** !!! LOL Needless to say he didn't stick around very long and blasted off. Nice buck and I guesstimated him at 135. He will be really nice next year.

Other then that I could see 3 other bucks scent checking cattail sloughs in the old pinto bean ground next to me. One looked really nice but too far for the can call or grunt call.

    Great morning !!

    Wow, Tim... what a morning!

I keep saying I'm going to get my Carry Lite deke out again that I bought several years ago but I just never have felt like messing with it lately. Hearing stories like this makes me want to get him out again!

Did I read that right? A 135 inch 5 pt? That had to be a heck of a cool looking deer. Sounds like a cool day.

    I think Tim calls a 5x5 a 5 pointer... awesome read, Tim!

I think he means at least 5 points on one side so i'm guessing it was probably a 10 pointer? An 8 pointer would be called a 4 pt....

    It's a western thing ;)
