So I got to playing around with my pins, I have 3 on this sight. I have always been a one pin guy. I use 1 pin out to 25 yards and compensate for it out to 25. I tried to use the other pins yesterday and they were just too tight for my liking. I could really see that messing me up in the woods. there is a dramatic drop after 25 but the next pin was right under the first one and allowed me to shoot out to about 30 yards. I just dropped the other ones out of the way and will stick with one pin. I rarely even get shots past 25. How many of you guys use one pin? what is your range with it? what is you fps? arrow weight? etc. BTW, at 10-23 yds it appears that I can hold it right on the dot and hits right where I want it to. Not high at 10 and 20. I know sometimes people talk about being 1" high at 10-15 yds but it doesn't seem to be the case for me.
I am a one pin user and would never consider changing. I shoot a 340 Destroyer and a 475 grain arrow. My pin is set for 25 yards but I am comfortable and accurate out to 45 yards without moving the pin.
This really depends on the speed of your bow. I shot a slower bow with a 4 pin set at 20, 25, 30, and 40. The pins had quite a bit of space between them. However, I'm ordering a Halon at higher poundage and expect to switch to an adjustable single pin as it should shoot much flatter.
I set the sight in at 10 yds and just kept moving back until I noticed the drop, which seemed to be around 23-24 yds. Now I set the pin at 23-24 yds I assume at 10 I would be about 1" high?
Multi-pin shooter here. When that moment arrives, I have never been good at holding just a little bit higher or whatever to concentrate. I look right through my pins and don't really see them as I am so focused on my target.
I changed to a single pin sight this year. But, it's one of those adjustable ones - HHA. Never going back to multi pin. I shoot a Heli-m. No clue how much my arrow weighs or how fast my bow shoots. My arrows are proper spine, shoots bullet holes, quiet. That's all I care about.
typically, I don't have to think about where to hold the pin because 98% of my shots are less than 25 yds.
Yep and that can be a challenge when the shot is under 20 yards, I just hold low and then just a touch lower on deer under 25 yards.
I've been thinking of switching from my 3 pin to a 1 pin this year... Just can't decide. Have looked into the pros and cons of each and I'm torn.
I have in the past mainly used a single pin HHA sight. Always shot to 25- 30 yds and no more. It really helps me in the woods. When I bought this Parker it came with a 3 pin sight, but I just have too much going on in my head at the moment of truth to worry about which pin. Admittedly, I am not the best shot to start off with, I suffer from form issues, always have but I seem to be able to make good shots under 25 yds in the woods. When i practice, 25 yds seems like a mile to me, and I shoot that distance a bunch. I am actually better on live targets than I am a 3d target.
My practice starts at 30 yards and goes to 60 yards. (Yet I have only once shot at an animal that was more than 30 yards away and it was an elk, big target.) I'm not a great target shot but put an animal in front of me and something happens that causes my arrows to fly true. Just put the correct pin on and release........ blood trail!
I have always thought that since most of my shots are under 25 I would rather be dead on at 10-20 yds not high 1' but dead nuts. Because most of my shots are usually 8-15 yds and at 20 ft up I don't want to hold lower, i want to just hold right on em. At least I think that is what is going on!
I've toyed with the idea of going to one pin since the majority of my shots are inside 25 yards. I currently use a TR Micro V3, the pins are stacked vertically which keeps the picture window open. I have mine sighted in for 25, 35, and 45 yards...the maximum I could conceivably shoot where I hunt...and actually, it's still more for practicing than anything else.
Im just trying to KISS as much as possible. Like I said, as a target shooter, I suck sooo bad. anything past 20 yds. my form is just atrocious at times. I can start out good but then it slowly drifts. Like yesterday, I shot great out to 30 yds for the first few shots, then I went too far right, then back to center, then too far left, then back to center....it's all grip and release related..
I was always a multi-pin user. In over 30 years of archery I never once used the wrong pin on a deer. Over the years I tried a few fixed single pins and never liked them. Last year I was using a 3 pin Black Gold Ascent adjustable. I liked it so well I tried the single pin head for it. I really liked the clean picture and simplicity of it. For some reason I sold that sight and bought a 4 pin Viper sight and realized I no long like multiple pin sights. I am now using an HHA and doubt I will ever go back to a multi-pin sight for hunting. Like a lot of folks, I keep mine set at 25 yards. I adjust it if I need to, but as most of my shots are 20-25 yards I have not had to yet.
I shoot an HHA single pin slider. Wouldn't consider a multi pin sight again. I keep mine set for 25 yards and shoot to 30 with no trouble. I love the uncluttered sight picture in the 2" sight housing. I've killed deer up close and personal and further out also. Earlier this year I ranged a buck at 40.5 yards from my tree stand, slid the pin to 40 and made the shot easy peasy. It works for me.
I've always had multi-pin. My current and my last were both 3 pin set at 20-30-40. I get pretty tunnel vision when I'm aiming, whether archery, rifle or even shooting darts so I don't like shifting my focus if I don't need to so I never use the level on the site. I use the 3 pins as a guide to tell me if I'm vertical or if I have the bow tilted. I've never tried a single pin but am going to look at them if I get into 3D shooting like I hope. Providing me more accurate range adjustments.
I went to a single pin HHA slider years ago, at least 10. I love it. I had the same issue with the multi-pin sights. I also had a problem with the red pin going dark too quick. I shoot the Switchback XT. 28" draw, 65 lbs, 380 grain set up with Gold Tip 5575 Hunter XT's. 278 fps. The bow is good to 80 yds. I've only tried that one time and was successful. No need to push my luck again. Normally I won't shoot past 40-45 yds. I also shoot with both eyes open.
Won't shoot anything but a single pin, ever. I like a single adjustable pin. Most of my shots are under 40 but I like to stretch it out for fun. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
