I have reason to believe that a certain teenager in my family is up to no good again as in has stolen an expensive cell phone from our single wide we are in the process of moving out of and into our house we are currently renovating. Had to be living in our houe to get the loan to finish the remainder of the renovations. He has a history of doing vendictive things after doing something such as steeling from others in the family and them suspecting him of doing it. He has been in trouble and was cleaning up his act until he started hanging around this new kid. Since he has started doing things that point to how he was acting before. I decided to go buy stand locks for all my stands and put them on this morning to make it a little harder if nothing else for him to mess with anything if he tried. He knows where one of my stands are but, not sure about the rest of them.

I normally wouldn't be in the woods as early as I was this morning due to possibly bumping deer before season. I just wanted to get the stand locks on as soon as possible.

I was at what I believe will be one of my most productive doe stands and potentially a decent buck stand around 8:15am. I was putting on my harness to go up the tree to my hang on and put the lock on it. As I fastened the last buckle on the harness I heard one blow and looked to the south east and there was one of the biggest does I have seen on the property to date. She watched for a second as I stood as still as I could then turned and headed back the other way.

Our opening date is September 10th. I am pretty sure I have a great chance at arrowing my first deer opening day given the wind play in my favor from this stand. I plan on staying away from the stand and my mineral station from now till opening day. I even removed my trail camera from the mineral station while I was out there this morning just so I am not temped to go snag the card. Oh and the activity has increased ten fold in the mineral station over the past week. I think this is due to the soy beans in the field right next to it are at about 8" high now. We had rain all day today so I am hoping it washed any of my scent out. Do any of you think this will hurt my chances come opening day?

Sometimes we give deer credit for being smarter than they really are :)

I have shot deer that snorted at me :D

So no it means nothing in my opinion.

I had a very similar question a few weeks ago and the consensus from the board was that it had little impact on the deer. An encounter here and there shouldn't throw them off too much. I'm thinking about moving my camera from the my mineral site also. The only deer that visit it are at 9:30pm-2am anyways.

Doubt it will affect anything unless you spook the same deer in the same area multiple times. I've spooked deer then the next morning they come back at the same time like clock work. Good luck! :tu:

hey stick I jumped a bedded doe and just kept moving climbed in my stand about 20 min later watched her walk right back to where she was an lay back down. I really think we worry way to much about little things when it comes to our hunting and not the more important ones.

The buck I want this season has been coming to the mineral station between 12:30am or so and 2:45am every two nights for the past two weeks. I hope to see him in the same area durring rut. I will probably have to go back in one last time before season to recharge my mineral station. I have had activity from does, fawns and other younger bucks all hours of the day at this one. I had it out long enough to know it was a very active area and I don't want to disturb it any more than I have too.

I didn;t think it would matter too much with doe but, if that were a buck I beilieve it could.

Non-Issue!! The deer that is, Deer do not have the mental capacity to remember that encounter for an extended period of time. If you were to constantly visit the stand site then yes, deer would begin to move else where. Good luck!!!

I also think we give the deer too much credit some times.

HOWEVER, that being said, I think some deer are exceptionally smart.

For instance, I got busted by this mature doe one evening early in the season. I sat this stand a couple times later in the year, and no joke, this doe came from across the field to bust me. She knew where it was, and she knew if I was there. I'd like to bust her...

The post started out about a thieving, vindictive problem teenager in his family......
And he said he was taking the trail camera down so I thought maybe hide this camera he wasnt using around the single wide or in the yard to catch this teenager if he does anything in the future.

I didn't mean take him hunting with you.

Maybe shark fishing but that's another forum:)

As far as the teenager goes I was hoping to have a possitive effect on him. I too got into a bit of trouble (not as much as he has) and have tried to talk to him and get him to realize of he keeps this kind of things up he is going to end up in more trouble than he knows what to do with. Problem with that is even though he has been in trouble with the law his mom is one of these that her baby can do no wrong. His dad on the other hand knows how he is but, is tired of trying to fight his mom on the issues. I really hope he is smart enough not to go messing with any of my stands as he knows I know more about him than anyone else. He opened up to me about things he has done that no one else knows about.

Anyways, I was actually more worried about that doe busting me than him messing with my stands. Its still a little unerving to know he is back to his old ways.

Just Pray for him SnString and try to be a solid, positive example for him. Don't let him suck you into reacting to his actions and bringing you down to his level. Sometimes they just want the attention.
We've all done things we're not proud about. Let's hope he grows out of it soon.
Most importantly don't let him take your mind off whats really important in life......bow hunting:)

Good luck with him and the Doe
