Not long ago, RJ tossed me some information regarding the military brass and that the DLA (Defense Logistics Agency) had made a decision to mutilate all spent brass as opposed to selling it to ammunition companies who then sell it to the public at a discounted rate, i.e. Wolf brand ammunition. Anyway, I wrote a letter to my senator about the recent decision and this is how he responded... Dear Mr. DeCroo: Thank you for contacting me concerning the decision by the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) to restrict the sale of spent brass ammunition cartridges. I am a staunch defender of constitutional rights, especially those relating to the Second Amendment. I took an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution upon my election to the U.S. House of Representatives 22 years ago. Since then, I have fought ardently to preserve the delineated intent of our founders. Principled Americans such as you and their Congressional Representatives in Washington D.C. believe the plain language of the Constitution: "the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." This bedrock belief in personal freedom has forced some to attempt to restrict gun ownership and use through backdoor means. The DLA's recent attempt to stop the sale of brass cartridges represents such an attempt. It re-classified fired munitions of all sizes, shapes, and calibers, requiring the fired munitions to be mutilated before sale. The DLA's initial decision forced many public companies to respond accordingly by retracting their ability to sell .223 and .308 ammunition, as well as other manufacturer's ability to sell reloading implements for .223 and .308 caliber ammunition. In response to an anticipated significant decrease in the amount of .223 and .308 ammunition sold, which is commonly used in hunting rifles, many companies began planning to release large amounts of their workforce. As Ranking Member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee and a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I fully support the retooling of Department of Defense (DOD) implements for civilian use. This ensures our natural resources are not wasted, provides the DOD with a consistent flow of income, and preserves the right of all law abiding Americans to keep and bear arms. I find it unconscionable that an administration that would so fervently lobby for the passage of a massive stimulus bill supposedly laden with "green initiatives" would restrict the recycling of a durable resource, close a consistent source of income for the DOD who budget they are already cutting, and force private industry to lay off more workers. In response to the outrage of private citizens such as you, the DLA retracted their "re-classification" directive. This retraction, once again, opens up the sale of spent brass ammunition cartridges to law abiding citizens. Thank you again for your correspondence and concern; you may be assured that I work every day to protect your rights. Senator Jim Inhofe
That's good to hear. It's why it's important for us as citizens to make sure our lawmakers know where we stand on issues, especially in these times.
Hey Dustin, good job in contacting the Sen. and letting him know where you, the voter stand on this issue! And good job to the senator for listening!
