Stupid question....how do you release it without getting close enough for it to tear you up?

I will just open the end and let it run out. It likely wont try to attack, more likely it will just tear out of there. I will probably have a little something ready for it if it gives me the old stink eye though.

    I saw that Tony... ;)

You can release just as easily out of foot-hold traps, and I do quite often. That's what catch poles are for. :)

Congrats Fletch... you'll never forget your first.

Just put out my first sets of the year today. Just a few flat sets for fox. Bobcat is my main priority as well. When the season opens in two weeks I'll have a record number of sets out.

    Awesome catch.

Good luck to you. You may have forgotten more than I will ever know about cat trapping, but if not.....I learned that by using feathers as bait and just a little lure (cat-man-do) and some bobcat urine, I get a lot less non-target species. I shot a gobbler with my bow this Fall and used the feathers to make my sets.

Also, thanks to all for sharing you thoughts and well wishes.

Doesn't matter how "pretty" you make your cat sets... you've got to catch all the possums out of the area first anyway.

    Trust me. ;)
