I'm the type of person that roots for the home team. I was born into a family that watched or listened to all IU games. I used to sit in the basement with my grandfather, listening to IU because they weren't on TV. I also grew up a Colts fan. I was 4 when the Colts came to Indy. My uncle had season tickets since. I'm not an NBA fan but you can gaurantee I'll never cheer for another team when they play the Pacers.
That said, I finally got to watch the press conference with Manning and Irsay. Peyton is all I have ever really known in a Colts quarterback. Sure I remember Jim Harbaugh but I was still pretty young. However, I really feel like I was broken up with. They are both really class acts. My real question is what are the "circumstances". There will now be tons of speculation on where he is going and what was the real reason. They made it clear that it was not in contracts. They hinted that it may be salary cap, but they never said that was the reason.

Some of the things Jim said made me think that they did it for Peyton himself. The Colts will recover. I have full faith and trust that the people Jim has put in place will build a championship team.

Keeping Reggie Wayne and Jeff Saturday so that Luck will have a good basis may cost too much too afford Manning.
I still can't help but think that this was a decision by Jim and Peyton to try and win Peyton some more rings. After all, there's 1 thing keeping Peyton from solidifying the "greatest of all time" position... rings.

    Sorry for the rant guys.

If you ever taken any management class, they teach you that the most successful way you can fire someone is they leave the room thinking you did them a favor by firing them.

I think irsay took that class.

BTW, were you serious in that last paragraph when you said they let him go so he could win more superbowls? Thats gotta be a joke right?

IDK why they let him go or anything like that but Payton was doing all he could to hold the tears back when he was talking about the fans and the colts comunity. It kinda makes you feel good when a big shot like that can thank his fans and all personally like that and you can tell that he truly ment it.

28 millon dollars in bonus money is the reason, don't be fooled, that and his injury.

Personally I'm getting sick of people eulogizing the dude or treating it like a divorce. He's made hundreds of millions of dollars. He's going to still do what he loves. He has a long career in TV afterwards. I think he's going to be ok. It's simply business. Nobody deserves an explanation. It is what it is. 14 years is a LONG stint with an organization. Look around.... Jordan, Pujlos, Gretzky, Montana, etc...... It just happens.

Nobody is holding a gun to your head making you listen or even open this thread. I got sick of Farve threads so what did I do, didn't open them. You are free to voice your opinion though and it's public media so thank you for your opinion.
You're right, business is business. On the outside it's hard to see what he's done. Yes, he has made hundreds of millions in contracts, however it's not a loss in the field, it's a loss in the community. He took a small children's hospital and helped turn it into one of the finest in the country, hundreds of millions donated to it. It's a safe bet that if he wasn't in Indy, Indy wouldn't have had the super bowl, pumping millions more into the economy.

I'm not saying the reason for the departure was Irsay wanting more for Manning. I think that is just a selling point. I believe salary cap and rebuilding flat don't go together and that Manning took the high road and didn't turn it in to something more. Both class acts. Proud of both.

This is a hunting website, some may not be into sports, to some it may look like I'm way into it. These guys represent a state, pretty happy about that.

I agree with everything 100%. Indy was good to Peyton and Peyton was good to Indy. Everyone is happy, class act departure. I don't see what the problem is.

I've been known to have a thing or two to say about sports. Pretty much been my life. I understand where you're coming from.
