It's a cow tag, but it's still an elk. I'm most likely going to use my .300Wby, but have entertained the thought of using my bow. My main reason for the rifle, would be for a longer shot. Drawing an Arkansas elk tag isn't that easy. They only issue 20 a year, so this is going to be my one and only chance to elk hunt, unless I win the lottery and get to go on a guided elk hunt sometime. :tu:

Congrats. If this is likely your one and only shot, you really need to ponder using all possible advantages you can. It's all what YOU want out of the hunt and what your goals are. Good luck.

Edit: And don't let anyone tell you that you are less of a man if you take the gun. Do what your heart tells you to do.

Oh, I won't even lesten to someone that tells me that if I don't take it with a bow, that I'm less of anything. I know that I vae a limited 30 to 40 yard maximum range with my bow, being shot by me. And I've got zero chance if I can't get into that range to make a clean shot. For this to be a one and done type hunt, I couldn't imagine the horrible feeling s I would carry for the rest of my life to have a great broadside shot at 60+ yards on one and not have my rifle in my hands. As much as I would LOVE to take one with my bow, It's a most likely possibility, that the .300Wby will be going with me. Now, if there were a way that I could carry my bow and still bring along my rifle as a back up plan, then that might be the plan.

CONGRATS to you, but don't get too wrapped around that "one and only" thing, you can very feasibly be out west hunting elk for under a $1000 looking at your location....

Congrats on drawing the tag. Personally i'd say take it with the gun, and if you're lucky enough to ever draw another one in a few years then take that one with a bow. Thats a nice oppurtunity, so I wouldn't want to risk it and waste it. I'm hoping that eventually NC will have a tag drawing system for our mountain elk if the population continues to increase the way it is. Congrats though.

Congrats on drawing the Elk tag , nothing wrong with being only a cow . Any Elk is a good Elk , cows are just as hard to get than a Bull . I'm in Co this september again lookin for my first Elk , if a cow presents the shot in the first hour of hunting , she's going down .... and getting mounted :) .

    Good Luck Cheetah :)

Elk tags in Arkansas, well I'll be damned. I take it that would be in the Northwestern part of the state (Buffalo River)? Just seeing Arkansas and elk in the same sentence looks strange. Good luck!
