the wife and i have seperate bank accounts, and i just buy stuff. "sometimes its easier to beg for forgiveness, than to ask for permission". i live by that statement, and its gotten me this far in life. also, it almost guarentees her she will get something new. for example, she has no idea i bought my deadzone yet. oh, also, im stationed in new jersey, and she lives at home in upstate new york with the kids. its a little easier for me to hide purchases from her.

So, if one hesitates during the draw cycle, because of any reason, like maybe a deer that looks up, he is now not eligible to enter his harvest ?

I dont "relax my fingers" or "trigger the release action"..I pull like a mother father until that back tension release breaks..

I heard that using a lighted nock will disqualify a hunters harvest from P&Y...That ridiculous and, I would just lie !! :)

"triggering the release action of a hand-held release aid"

by pulling, the way you put it, you are, in fact, triggering your handheld release aid. and liars are on the same level as thieves to me.

That's not how I read it. It says 30" bow not 30" ATA.

    4. The bow shall be no shorter than 30 inches.
Unless this is talking about draw length and in that case many of us would be screwed.

Shorter bows and Parthian shots kept several archers out of the Roman record books too (It's hard to scribe when you're dead)!

I maintain P&Y has a silly way of doing things, but hey, it's their club. A archer just isn't an archer unless his tool is big!

    Have fun with that.....

I personally have a huge issue with Pope & Young. This organization does very little in regards to the advancement of archery and gaining archers to this sport. Their qualifications as to equipment that are "legal" for the P&Y club are dumb founding. If you are strictly a traditional archer, then it's okay but trad shooters feel that these record books are tainted by those that use "training wheels."

The scoring systems of the P&Y are astounding when it comes to what they "count" and what they don't. My personal feeling is that any animal that is "scored" should get credit for everything 1/8" of tine or horn length grown. To give an animal "deductions" because it doesn't have symmetry is extremely disrespectful to the animal and the species.

I have no use whatsoever for the Pope & Young club and none of my qualifying animals have or ever will be entered.

In my opinion the Safari Club International is a much better organization to be affiliated with. They spend millions upon millions of dollars for archery and big game habitat in this country as well as a multitude of others, P&Y does not. Their scoring systems give credit to each individual animal for what it grows and doesn't deduct for what it doesn't.

The P&Y club is more or less a group of traditionalists that refuse to acknowledge technology in this sport and I refuse to be a part of their organization.

It's actually pretty disappointing to me to see how little P&Y does for anything except the advancement of the P&Y.

I haven't forgotten about your hogs either... I'll be in touch soon.

Pope and Young certainly isn't all bad, just misguided in certain areas IMO....but hey, it's their club, their rules as Will put it.

I see the positives and negatives to both sides, but I elected to not enter any animal I have taken thus far, would consider a world record for obvious reasons.

SCI has it's pitfalls as well, but again these private organizations can run themselves however they see fit.

The only hunting org I see on it's way out is the NWTF, sadly as it seems to have the most local reach here in the midwest with getting kids involved. But the NWTF was meant to re establish wild turkeys, they have to the point of almost becoming a nuisance, lol.

No problem lol. I just need to get out of state and do some hunting within the next 2 years. I really want a bear or elk hunt but I cant afford a guide anytime soon and I want to be as successful as possible.

hmmmm, ill have to look into that Safari Club youre talking about. until i read that post i thought it was just the two, P&Y and B&C. so youre telling me they(SCI) doesnt deduct any points? gives credit for everything? if so, i think ill go that route if i ever decide to enter a buck into the record books, but mostly all the bucks in my area dont get past 120. due mostly in part to all the out of town gun hunters that come in from the city and shoot anything that moves. i saw them carrying out a doe(or button buck) that couldnt have weighed more than 90-100Lbs live. its sad to see what they will shoot at. they wound more than they kill.

I agree with everything Dustin has said. I also like the fact that SCI breaks the country into regions (Midwest, Southeast, Northwest, Northeast, and Texas) pertaining to WT deer scoring. They do the same for multiple species and regions around the world. It's a better way to compare apples to apples, IMO. Whitetail deer, for example, in Florida are not going to be the size of deer in Alberta-for obvious reasons. P&Y does nothing to take regional differences into consideration. They believe a white-tailed deer is just a deer. Most of us know otherwise.

If anyone wants to join SCI, I will sponsor you. It'll cost $55 for an annual membership. I will give you all the information you'll need to join. When SCI receives your membership application, they will send me a $50 gift certificate to Cabelas. I will in turn forward that gift certificate to you. In the end, it will cost you $5 to try SCI for a year. What does a person have to lose? SCI's monthly journal is one of the best magazines out there! SCI's bi-weekly newspaper is loaded with valuable information. Moreover, their World Hunting Award Program has been one of the coolest things I have ever participated in (as a hunter, it pits you against yourself. It challenges you to "get out there"! The sky is the limit)! Pm me if you're interested.

I purposely took the light off of my sight when I went to Kansas incase I shot a buck that could possibly qualify for P&Y (which I did) Then again I think that their is a clause about the amount of let off so I might not qualify after all. Not that it is a big deal, I just know that my chances of shooting a whitetail that qualifies at home are not very realistic.

You P&Y bashers amaze me! This bowhunting organization has fought for your rights as bowhunters for many, many years. As far as the technology ***** Dustin and Will, I'm all for what they (the P&Y Club) Is doing In that regards. Technology Isn't always a good thing. You say the P&Y club doesn't donate any money? Your way off base there.

    Steve,

With all due respect, what does the length of the bow have to do with anything? Isn't it about limbs and string. The African bushman hunts with a tiny bow-much less than thirty inches. He is incredibly effective. Is he less of an indian than Ishi?

You don't feel it's disrepectful to score a "wild" animal using a scoring system devised for measuring "domesticated" cattle? I truly feel they could do better!

I do understand the value of P&Y (I get it), but their means and methods are both elistist and archaic. They could denote positive change with an "*".

    Long live P&Y........!

Interesting how the only person really coming to bat for P&Y is a 100% trad shooter.

    Just an observation.
