Now let me see your plan of attack.... Embedded is a map outlining the habitat, a close up of a bed I want to hunt (the yellow dot in the first photo), a shed and dead head map and a clean map for you to mark up... I have killed a few good whitetail on this property, but am leaving that tidbit of info off the maps. I do not want to sway any decisions of yours. Ask any specific questions that you wish and I will answer the best that I can. I ONLY HAVE PERMISSON TO HUNT THE AREA OUTLINED IN RED. Habitat. Bed close up. Shed and deadhead map. Clean map to mark up.
So you can only hunt the area in red, but you can shed hunt all of it I'm guessing? After looking at the map for literally like only one second and seeing the predominant prevailing wind, right where your number 16 is would definitely be at least one stand choice.
I am just going entirely off by what I see on the last map photo, and these are the areas that I would focus on....
Please, take it with a grain of salt. If you remember seeing pics of my barren hunting spots you will know why I am partial to the field edges. I have no experience with any form of substantial timber so my eyes are automatically drawn to ag fields. EDIT: I just now noticed the dominant winds. My choices may not make much sense now.
Where do you park to access the property?? Can you access it from the NE corner?? How many bowhunters in the property north of you?? Where are their stands if you know?? Anyone else hunt the area you hunt?? Where are their stands ?? Soybeans still green when hunting season starts for you?? When do they harvest the soys and corn on average. Need more " DETAILS " since we don't get hands on scouting to figure out morning, evening or morning/evening stand locations. Tim
If I had just 1 day to hunt.. the area south of 15.. and west of 16 is where I'd be. As close to the northern edge of your property as I can. On the east or west side of that swamp.. depending on water level of swamp.
Tim Where do you park to access the property?? On the NW west border off the side roads or the farm house all the way to the south of the photo. Can you access it from the NE corner?? No, that is an interstate. How many bowhunters in the property north of you?? 4 that I know of plus the trespassers from the houses to the West. I kick a few out every year Where are their stands if you know?? They use climbers, they all mostly stay in the area marked young maple trees. Anyone else hunt the area you hunt?? Yes, and he is one of the worst hunters Ihave ever met. There are 3 other guys also. Some guy from Michigan and I do not know the other two. I keep to myself. And again the trespassers. Where are their stands ?? Mostly field edgde setups for them all Soybeans still green when hunting season starts for you?? Maybe 1 out of 4 years they are still green. When do they harvest the soys and corn on average. Beans first 2 weeks of October. Corn any where the whole month of November. How many acres in your hunting area?? 137 Schultzy Scott, where does the bed In the 2nd picture fit into the other pictures? The yellow dot in the first picture. I changed the North orientation in the closeup photo because it showed more detail. Duke On the east or west side of that swamp.. depending on water level of swamp. It used to be a beaver damned swamp, the farmer knocked the beaver damn out a couple years ago now it is just a little creek and a dried up bed.
Location depending on the winds.... but my first choice would be the one farthest north. then the one south of that (looks like a small clearing there), if for no other reason, they aren't on the field edges. you might have a better chance of getting them moving in toward the fields in those locations. I would set up here early mornings or on an evening when it has been raining or misting most of the day. These days seem to get the deer moving a bit earlier and might get the deer to you before the end of shooting hours. A SW wind would be perfect because the buck would feel safe thinking he could smell any danger. (on an evening hunt) I would also check the rest of the north fence line to the west of the swamp. There may be some trails to set up on there as well
magicman drew what I would have had I had more than one second to devote to it last night... Good choice, magic!
Does the area circled have a dry creekbed or some type of elevation change? It looks like there is some type of terrain feature, and its down wind from a doe bedding area. I'd set up along there in the oaks.
My problem is... That is an interstate. And I do not have access to that property. That entry on paper is fantastic, but not an option for me. Very good eye noticing the break in habitat. But, there is no elevation change. That is an old skidder trail.
I will add, a couple of you guys picked a spot I shot 2 good bucks and had multiple encounters with other good bucks
