I seem to get more excited about the stands that I hang for late season. In preparation for the PA late archery season, my father-in-law and I set up my blind brushed into this telephone pole briar patch on Saturday. I have been watching 10-12 doe feed in this corner at night and we will be trying to get him his first archery deer. Crappy cell phone pic. This was his first year bow hunting and he has had a blast. He has access to a 300 acre farm and hunted that most of the season, but we both have a lot of time off after Christmas and have been looking forward to logging some hours together. I had figured I would hunt one of my other stands that I have had up all year, but after a walk on Saturday, we found a cool little spot that showed some fresh sign. I have thought about the spot before but overlooked it a bit. (Didn't take a pic as I had to hang out a bit cause a nanny and her fawn came though. ) I figured I would just climb for the week or two that we have to hunt, but today I had some time and I went and hung a stand. Man, I don't think the steps are coming out, gonna be a good spot next year too when the farmer rotates to beans. I had a similar experience last year hanging a stand for late season. I guess I just don't want this thing to end. I still have a buck tag and even though I have plenty of meat in the freezer, I will be looking to punch my last doe tag as well. Live it up, play to the whistle, and get out there boys. 2010 season is a long way off.
are late season is ridiculous in some parts of the state like the county i live in its shotgun only but they extended it till feb 8th or 18th so im guessing u can use a bow that whole time but i think the rest of the state is till jan 17th or 18th something like that and good luck ben on getting him a deer and thats a nice brush job took me a sec to finally find it
Im going to be out also. i have a Buck and a Doe Tag left!!!!!!!!! Can't wait to get back out, i'm not looking forward for the cold weather thou
I don't mind the cold weather, to me it's just a matter of dressing the part. I'd take cold over rain any day. The 3rd weekend of the early season was a killer for me. I managed to shoot a doe, but it rained for 48 hours and it sucked. As long as I can stay dry, I am game.
Go Get'em Ben!! I get tired hunting sometime but it doesn't take much time out of the woods until I am ready to get after'em again!! Good luck! Dan
I may try to get the camera out. I had planned on sitting in the blind with him for a sit or two, but I am antsy to be in the new stand I hung. I do have view of the field from that seat, so I may try to video from afar. My brother in law, is also home and may sit in the blind with the camera. He is my next convert to bowhunting. He will be bowhunting next year for sure.
Thanks bud. I'll be honest. I'd be thrilled to take a late doe like you did last year. The only late doe that I have ever taken was my first. It's a special time to be in the woods.
I'm pretty worked up myself. I'll be at it the day after christmas for the late season opener with the new Destroyer, and I can't wait. I've still got 2x doe tags and a buck tag for PA. Got the hunting laundry all done tonight, and tomorrow I'll be headed to the club to get a final tune on the Destroyer so she's all tuned up. Good luck to everyone, it's the bottom of the 9th inning but a mediocre season can turn into a great season in just a matter of seconds!! ~Matt
