I have been doing some research into video cameras for a while now. I'm the type that needs a lot of info and "mulling" before I commit to a decision.

I guess what I am looking for is an all-round camera for hunting, kids sports, hiking, etc. At first I thought that I wanted something compact that could fit into your shirt pocket. But then I read some info on cameras like the GoPro. I have two sons, 12 and 7, who will be hunting with me from time to time and I would like to film hunts in various situations, also mounting to a tree might come in handy but I guess most cameras these days could be mounted.

Anyway, any advice here would be great.

I don't think the "go pro" camera is what you want. I don't think that it has any zoom at all. correct me if I am wrong.

I just bought a toshiba camelio x100 for $150 at wal-mart they also have another model that I ordered too it was the toxhiba camelio30H that one has not arrived yet.

I am pretty impressed for the money. the good thing about is it is only $150 and shoots in HD.

I also have a panisonic ag-dvc-20 that recently the tape drive broke. $500 estimate to repair. now remember that this camera is "professional grade".....mini dv.

The advatage to the toshiba is the price and quality for the money. I know it is nothing like what the "real" guys use but I think that it is very good for the average guy who wants to film a hunt or his kids baseball game. I haven't figured out how to work it all yet but they say that with a 32gig memory card you will get an hour and a half. that memory card is about $50. so for a total price of $300 you will have a brand new camera that is HD and two memory cards and two batteries that will give you 3 hours of filming which is a long time.

here is a video I filmed in the yard after I got it out of the box.

don't forget to watch it in 1080. it will take a while to buffer but I think the quality is good for the money

Click on my link and you'll see what a JVC Everio MS-110 does. It's about $125. The turkey hunt is fee hand the other hunts are with a Ameristep tree arm. When you buy a camera make sure it has a good low light sensor.
