Sounds easy enough, but I can't recall any truly successful QBs in the NFL that never took snaps under center in college. QBs like Andre Ware, Tim Couch, Alex Smith, Vince Young, etc, have all been either mediocre or complete busts.
I'm going to write this without shuffling through 3 pages of replies. As a pro style QB, he has a TON of work to do. It's one thing to develop a new throwing motion in practice, but when he has NFL players running him down, will those old habits return? He does work extremely hard, is a stand up guy, and was an unbelievable college player. But his showing at the senior bowl was absolutely terrible when he attempted to take snaps under center. However, I don't really see why the Broncos would want to use such a high pick on what everyone has described as a "project". I'm sure McDaniels is going to have some type of wildcat package designed for him, and playing behind Quinn and Orton will give him every chance to mature into a NFL QB. 5 years down the road will Tim Tebow be a player who was worth a 1st round selection? Right now I would say no. He has many obstacles to overcome at QB, and if a position change is needed, then I would say that this pick was a mistake.
The reason why people talk about him is because he is a Heisman Trophy Winner, and could have won it two more times as the nations best player. A person in that category deserves to be talked about time and time again if he has produced at that level for 3 years prior to the draft. I don't think Tebow tries to "keep up" the goody two shoes image, that is just him...how do you want him to act? Do you want him to act like a s-head so that we can all say he is "just one of the boys" and root for him? I do agree with many of you that his technique needs much improvement. From the film I watched on many of the prospects that entered the draft, MANY of them need to improve, and rapidly.
I wish I'd had video of my receiving skills as a HS catcher.......and compared them with my soph. season. I wish I had film of me batting in HS (when 99% of the pitching I was facing couldn't throw it BY me on a bet).....and compare it to me after a season of work with my college hitting instructor. I didn't have to have a quick bat in HS. I was playing the hand dealt. Tebow's only "problem" is that he didn't use his time as a collegiate QB to prepare himself for the pro game. He was so far ahead of his opponents that he didn't have to. Now, he does. Again, though.....he's risen to the top in every endeavor he's attempted. I personally see no reason to doubt he'll rise to this challenge. I think he could be a great NFL QB. I think he could be a great NFL tight end. I think he could be a great H back. See a pattern? I don't think he knows what "defeated" means. Give me a team full of guys like that and I'll be happy. Will I win every time? Nope. BTW....I want to be on THIS guy's (see below) team. Hmmmm. I wonder how long it took my pee-wee quarterback/teammate at age 7 to learn how to take a ball from under center.....I think it took maybe 3-4 weeks. I am not kidding.
Guys, the whole throwing motion thing is way over rated. It is something for ESPN to talk about, he simply holds the ball higher, and keeps the same motion or close to it. He is a superb athlete and should have good success in the pro's. Senior Bowl, alot of guys have big days and bad days...but something moved Tebow from a 5th or 6th round guy to a 1st rounder...Mcdaniels knows a thing or 2 about QB's. Everyone has an agenda (not us, but sports writers etc...) they either want to see the golden boy fail, or be the guy who writes the story of how stupid the broncos are for drafting a heisman trophy winning, 2 time national champ giving back to the community young man fail. Mel Kiper (****** bag anyway) went off last night, not because he really belives Tebow is a horrible pick, but because he looks like an ASS for having him go 4 rounds earlier and ahead of 2 other QB's compared to his big board. Only thing I care about is we don't have to face him again...I really hate making a grown man cry(: PS...Roll Tide...dang computer wont let me post a pic of him crying again.
Phillip Rivers, Joe Montana, Drew Brees, Byron Leftwhich, and many more have/had very unorthodox motions...Vince Young heard this same crap, and when his head is on stright he is very good. So much is written on the guy because alot of people outside the sports world will read it and we all know what sells....... is what will ultimatly be written about, hence 40000000 articles about tebow and the draft.
I'm not getting excited about the draft until they start this years draft for the Dallas Cheerleaders.
I get a kick out of all the (suddenly) NFL QB mechanic experts in the nation lol. If you had to base your opinion on Tebow by his credentials, attitude and work ethic what pick would you say he was? Everyone in the nation is now an expert on the mechanics of the quarterback position? Where was all this analysis a few years ago when talking about QB's in the draft? Amazing what ESPN can do to a sports fan.
Lol Germ, I get your point....:D But i dont care how many doobs Randy Moss smokes or white kids he beats up....Im taking him over any other wide reciever on earth out of college. If i owned a franchise, theyd be in the news all the damn time im sure...but we sure as hell would be winning.
Tebow is a pretty rare player, and maybe the first of his kind. Someone who could dominate on the collegiate level, be in the heisman discussion for 3 years, but no one was sure if he could play at the next level. Tommie Frazier is about the only player I can think of in recent years that even came close, as in a dominate collegiate player that most experts and fans thought would never translate into a NFL player. Tebow is a very likeable kid. There is no debate there. He may be the first 4th string QB in the NFL to sell a bunch of jerseys, or any for that matter. You can bet you will see a bunch of Tebow jerseys in the near future.
