"Not sure where you were going with this. " I can assure you it is not the racist route that you may think. It is a fact about first round picks looking terribly pretentious, white, black, chinese, hispanic...they come across as self-absorbed and look terrible in my opinion. I have noticed this trend getting worse over the years. Note to first round picks...please stop wearing all the bling bling, 10 K suits, and acting like you are a king. Go work hard and prove yourself first.
Wasn't thinking racist as much as people come from different walks of life and cultures. If the kid chooses to spend his advancement on a suit and/or earrings, its his money. Doesn't matter if that player comes from a loving family (Tebow) or its a player who's legal guardians (mother and grandmother) went to jail for 20-40 years when he was 12 (Demaryius Thomas). As long as the media and the fans treat these guys like kings, you will always have some that act that way. If students and fans don't fill Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, then Tebow doesn't stand at midfield with a microphone to announce he's returing for his senior year...just like the other 10,000 juniors at the University of Flordia that year.
What gets me is we complain about selfish athletes and what ass-clowns they are, we get one who is selfless, and has outstanding character and some put him down. Tebow is a class act as a person, I'll take 100 Tebows on my team over a Randy Moss. Big Ben or any other of these ass clowns today. Mike Williams Charles Rodgers Chuck Long Shawn Rodgers TeBow is going to shock some people, the kid will not fail, becasue he does not know how We(Detroit) drafted Andre Ware in the first round. The experts said he was the real deal, LOL
He played in the system and manner (in college) that he was asked to play in. He excelled. I don't think it'll be any different in the NFL. He'll do just fine. I never was, prior. But, I'm a big fan of the kid, now. I hope he does wonderful things. And, the pick doesn't surprise me one bit.
And the "evidence" albeit small in regards to teams selecting players during their one week stint at the senior bowl , shows that selecting a player based on that one week is a poor choice. How many times have you heard someone say, "the coach just fell in love with that player during the senior bowl"....how do you think that player is going to workout during the senior bowl when their career is on the line?...HARD. It is fake. There are a lot of lazy, prima donna athletes that exist in college when noone is watching, and that translates over in them being poor professional atheletes. You have to look at a guy over the long term part of his career...look at his work ethic day in and out when noone is looking, both on and off the field.
Maybe this is why Tebow VS LSU 2006 W 23-10 2007 L 28-24 2008 W 51-21 2009 W 13-3 By the way how is Russel working out in the Pros? I believe he was benched for a QB who played at U of T(which is right down the street from me). You never know, who would have thought Brady would be such a studd, hell he got Benched here at MI. The guy(Drew Hanson) is not even in Football anymore.
And as they say, "Thats why they play the game.....". There are only a handful of players each draft that you just know will be studs in the NFL....the rest have to prove it for the next 3-4 years to be taken seriously.
I think some people are viewing the criticism wrong. No one is tearing down his character, but simply how his skills would translate to the NFL. Because he's a nice guy, his talents can't be discussed? You rarely read or hear one bad thing about Tebow's character or personal life. The whole school of choice issue in high school is about the only knock on him. I don't think he was worth a first round pick. Obviously, I'm not a NFL scout or coach so my opinion carries no weight. Its nothing personal though. Like I said before, I have no reason to root against him. If he's successful, good for him.
I hear you Vito, he needs to be deconstructed technique wise by each team. He will get his shot, and will either sink or swim. I for one hope he swims.
I don't really know what this has to do with anything. I've admitted that Tebow was a hell of a college player. I'm glad that he is gone from Florida so LSU will never have to play him again. But none of that really matters now. I could have told you Russell would fail in the NFL before he was drafted. I hated him as QB at LSU. He got by purely on talent and is quite possibly the laziest person on the face of the Earth.
He was certainly discussed, good and bad, more than any prospect that I can remember. I am just a little tired of the subject, not the player. I blame ESPN. Even the announcers on college and NBA basketball have been discussing the topic in recent months. He will continue to be under a microscope for at least the next few years. The most discussed/analyzed prospect just become the most discussed/analyzed 4th string QB. He seems like a good guy, and yes, its always nice to see the good guys succeed.
I missed the draft last night, so when I went to ESPN this morning to see who was drafted where, 3/4 stories were talking about Tebow. I really had to search to see if Bradford was indeed selected #1 overall. Such a shame.
ESPN = TMZ. 30 for 30 is about the only thing I can watch on there anymore. Tebow certainly deserves credit for his college success and the fact that he stays out of trouble. It was just overdone. Stories like Demaryius Thomas, who overcame great odds to be where he is today fell through the cracks. Instead of regurgitating the same info on Tebow for months, they could have focused on other stories and prospects a little more. But its all about ratings. Love them or hate them, people want to see the Yankees, North Carolina bball, and Tim Tebow.
He certainly has a bunch of people drinkin' the hatorade. He's never failed....at anything. But,.......there's "evidence" he will in the pros???? Keep drinkin'. The NFL's chock full of sure-fire winners that petere'd out like a whisper. I suppose their draft picks were justified......because they were "supposed to be good"????
He failed pretty hard at the Senior bowl when they made him take actual snaps under center, you know, like pro QBs do...
I am just taking a wild stab he will figure out how to take a snap and hand the ball off, LOL Really that's all you got, BTW I HATE Florida
I like how Hooker's getting torn apart for his opinion on this. I'll give Tebow his props as a college player, and he sure SEEMS to be a standup guy. I just think he's tries too hard to keep up a perfect persona and it bugs the hell out of me. He just seems so fake to me. I don't know if he'll be able to adapt his game and become a success, but I won't be rooting for or against him. I'm just waiting for the draft to get over so I can stop hearing about him, when he was probably only the 3rd or 4th best QB in the draft.
I don't think anybody is tearing Hooker apart, LOL More like College Football fun and ribbing, I would expect the same ribbing when I state TP from OSU is going to suck in the pros:p Tebow gets the attention because he's Tim Tebow If he acted like a punk, nobody would care
