I hope this link is okay, if not delete it please. Horrific images of a massive buck and a coyote http://www.deeranddeerhunting.com/jiofds-2fnd983-fnkl2i2-2789ndf98?et_mid=525482&rid=68358830
I mean that is insane!!! The thing just couldn't take anymore...it just finally gives up and lays down. Hard to look at.
Crazy on many levels. Can't believe how that all played out right in front of the camera... center shot even. Wow.
that is strange that the deer just stayed there....I thought for sure he would have taken off....great photo sequence though..
As I watched that I thought there might be something wrong with that buck to begin with. Most mature bucks could easily handle a couple of yotes. Maybe it was sick. Blessings......Pastorjim
I would bet the flash was spooking the coyotes off so it was an area of relative safety for the deer...notice how the yotes never got a hold of him while the pics were taken....probly got a hold of him every time he tried to break out which also might mean there were more than two dogs in the background somewhere...I have seen where a large buck up here in UP of MI fought off and got free of 5 wolves but I think he got lucky being that it was about 120 yrds from our camp and hunters disrupted the fight. Blood covered pretty much 50 square feet and you could see where he had dragged 2 at a time in the snow and some how got away - he ran one direction and the wolves another so I think it may have been one of the nieghbors on 4 wheelers or truck coming by that interupted his probable demise. The problem for dominant bucks is that they do stand thier ground when the the first 1 or 2 attack but when the rest of the pack gets there they have little chance of survival.
I amazes me how long they stayed there going after him. If i remember correctly the first shot where you see the blood was around 2200.
Looks like this played out over quite a while. There's a chance that the flash of the camera may have actually spelled the demise of the deer. "Deer in the headlights" effect, if you will.
Man that's scary. I have seen nothing but coyotes this year on our place and I am thinking my hunting season is ruined. How many deer have the coyotes taken down already. Obviously they are hanging around for a reason. Then to make matters worse I was surrounded and nearly attacked by a pack of wild dogs yesterday. I won't be going without a firearm any longer.
