My season ended middle of December. The first couple weeks (although I missed going out) actually felt good to get the ole body recovering. It was a long grueling season as usual for me. Caught up on some neglected stuff and just rested hung out for a couple weeks. Felt nice. Now....... I find myself staring aimlessly out the window looking into the woods with a great urge to be hunting whitetails! I've been keeping busy. Trail cams, late season scouting, shed hunting, sausage making etc... hell I even sat in a stand a couple nights ago for the last hour just for the hell of it. I try to find something deer hunting related to do everyday lol. Nothing replaces the feeling of actually being in a tree hunting them though. I'm in withdrawal mode.
Not yet. I will get to hunt a few more times (urban season). But, it's nothing I'm absolutely chomping at the bit for. I'm sure I'll change my tune, once I'm in the tree. I have been shooting, more. I've worked back up to 2-3X/wk.....and I shot 70+ arrows, yesterday. I'll probably shoot that many or more, today. I grew to loathe 3D, once. But trad. 3D is much more enjoyable (to me). We can take 6 guys and shoot a 20 target course in around an hour. So, we shoot a couple rounds, usually. I'm trying to get in shooting shape for the 3D season, now. But.......I probably wouldn't have climbed a tree, today, if I had the opportunity. Still content. Next Sat....I will (hunt).
I went out today for the 1st time since Dec 12(& even then I didn't hunt, just sat with my Dad). It was nice, saw some deer & shot a doe. We have one more weekend left & I have 1 more tag. I may go out for a few hours just like this morning.
I apologize gentleman, I saw 3 does this AM before the rains moved in. A guy on the adjoining lease spooked them my way. I settled the pin on a very big doe for GA but just could not bring myself to squeeze the trigger. She was very alert looking back at where they ran from, and at 35 yards I just could not do it. Feeding or just moving through and she was done, as she was perfectly broadside, but too many variables...compounded by rain moving in. Maybe next time, as that was the first time I have been in a tree in over 3 weeks. We have until Jan 31st.
