My wife's birthday is on November 3rd. In my opinion a very good day to be hunting in any woods. I give that day to her and it's really a challenge. It's all give and take! :tu:

My wife goose hunts and ice fishes with me and I take her slug hunting so it's a win win for both of us. Our little guy throws more of a wrench in there now.

For me it should be farming vs marriage and hunting. Farming takes way more of my time than the other two in the fall. Good thing for date nights in the tractor.

My wife doesn't hunt, but she knows its my thing so she just accepts my nuttiness (as she calls it) in the fall. She knew what I did when we met. She has her things, I have mine and we're good. The hardest adjustment for me was when the kids came along. That was TOUGH, not being able to get out like I used to. However, they're growing and now they join me in archery season in the blind so its a win-win for everyone.

But, I will tell you something that happened when my time began to be more limited when the kids were little... I hunted smarter. Instead of just hunting every single minute I had available to me, I had to pick and choose more wisely. I think its made me better and more successful... go figure.

    Playing devil's advocate here...

How many of you would support your wife in a hobby that took her away from you and the kids for several months? I always wondered that. Again, I'm with all of you trying to juggle family life and hunting, but I always hear, "hunting season is my time..." How many of you then give your wife two-three months of flexibility to go off an do her thing while you man the house and the kids?

Not knocking if it works, and that's great, but it's fun to think about if the shoe were on the other foot.

To everyone that stats hunting is from September-December, or I want to hunt the month of November and she can have the rest of the 11 months, do any of you shed hunt? Turkey hunt? Run cameras or do food plots? Think long and hard about it. Hunting has become a year long hobby now, not just a month or 2.

I can also say kids play a huge role in time spent hunting. Had a baby boy this past last October, I only hunted 2 times the whole rut and I was perfectly fine with that. My wife needed me at home to help with the baby and I wasn' about to miss the first few weeks of our first babies life.

My jon boat sat in the yard most of the weekends for about 15 years because the pick up was getting used to pull a horse trailer while my wife and daughter were gaming horses. One of those things you just deal with.

Gunther 89 I deer hunt, mostly archery, I do not waste time looking for sheds, I do not hunt turkey, I quit bear hunting years ago, 1 was enough, I no longer bird hunt, So yes October, November and half of dec are mine and I have a clear conscience---May and June the wife and I both spend a lot of time together fishing

Like the Bible says, anything can become and idol and be worshiped to the determent of your family and responsibilities.

Sadly there are many men who worship hunting and put it before their wife and kids. Don't do that!

But, when in the proper balance, having a passion for hunting is a good thing.

I got my wife on that one.... when we were dating I kept drilling it in her head how hard it is to be with a hunter. All the time away and even in the off season it takes some time away. Blah blah blah. Her reply was....” that’s ok my kids will be my hobby” meaning she just loves kids so much. that’s when I knew she was a keeper. I think she’s eating her words now lol. But really I don’t hold her to that and try to give her breaks. It helped me out that her deadbeat ex would pick fights with her and take off on his motorcycle to the bars. She’s just happy I’m not like that.
