I'm hunting a steady cold rain... Am I wasting my time or is there a chance I still see movement?

I've hunted in the rain my share and have seen little movement. However, I've seen them standing out feeding in the rain too so who knows? If there's still a rut in your area, I can't imagine a lot of bucks will be seeking since their sense of smell is greatly reduced in the rain. Just my $.02 worth.

Yeah to be honest I usually call it quits in a bad rain. I've got a heavy drizzle here. Not pouring, but not fun. As for the rut, seems to have died down before it ever really got good. I'm trying to bank on the fact that there's a dense population here and not a lot of food, hopefully they'll move for food even with the rain

If it is a consistent rain I stay home when bow hunting. Makes it very difficult to trail a shot animal. Not to mention it is miserable to sit in a cold rain.

Once you send a arrow on its way then the rain plays a huge role in recovery or not in most cases.

I've killed quite a few deer in the rain, in fact my first bow kill was in the rain. BUT as stated blood trailing can be a challenge.

If it starts to rain while I'm in stand I will usually stick it out but if it's raining before I leave my house I'll usually pass unless it's the prime of the rut etc. worst part is having to dry all your gear out when you get home.

I hunted in an all day downpour with thunder and lightning...fortunately I was in an enclosed stand, and dry as a bone. I did see a few deer that day also, so go figure....

I like hunting in a soft rain. I do change tactics though. You definitely want to hunt where you can watch your deer after the shot for at least 100 yards. Limit your shot distances too. You definitely can kill deer in the rain. DO NOT let the fact that it is raining cause you to rush a tracking job. Giving them time is even more critical than before... a well hit deer will lay down when it gets to the thicket almost every time, just watch them and be prepared to get help just in case.

If it gets real heavy I back out. Unless its the rut then I hang in as long as I can as I have also killed deer in the rain

Agree with Slugger. During the rut I'll sit through pretty much anything, but a complete downpour will send me on my way. I actually prefer a misty, damp day though. The deer seen to feel more comfortable moving at odd times.

I wont hunt in the rain. Lets forget the fact that hunting in the rain is not fun and hunting is supposed to be fun, not miserable. Every drop of rain washes away every drop of blood. Why take the chance of not finding a deer because the rain washed away your blood trail? Your blood trail is the only way you have of finding a deer. What if you have a bad hit and HAVE to wait and it just keeps raining harder washing away the chance of finding your deer with every drop of rain? Nope, I wont hunt in the rain.
