So I packed my stuff up. Kissed the wife goodbye and headed out for the tree stand yesterday evening. I returned home, however, about 10 minutes later having almost jinxed the whole thing. Since I learned to hunt with my father we had always left a handful of seeds and such for the squirrels and critters in whatever area we’d hunted. It’s become a tradition maybe even a hunting superstition that’s become an obsessive habit. Anyone else have some crazy hunting habit/tradition/superstition?

Actually if nothing else, a handful of seeds might at least keep some activity going on with the small critters, which helps with the downtime boredom periods. I don't have too many superstitions that I am aware of, but I certainly try to set my stand up almost exactly the same way every time so my pack and other gear is always in the same places. I don't like to guess where everything is at when it's crunch time.

I do not bring a deer drag of any type with me. Don't even bring one in my truck. The one season I brought a deer drag (last year) in my pack all season long. The first time I never killed any deer since my first year of deer hunting. Never bringing a drag again.

I think it's bad luck to go deer hunting and not kill a deer. So...when I go deer hunting, I try really hard to kill a deer.

Actually one that SHOULD be enforced is posting a pic or a BBD post on Facebook after you take that shot, but have not recovered it yet. I cannot believe the number of posts stating "I just shot the biggest buck of my life..." or even a doe, with pics too come, then crickets.... Then you ask what's up and they say they had good blood and just lost it...

For the last 5 years a guy at work started a big buck contest. $20 to get in, winner take all. Bow only, must have pics, ohio deer only. The 3 years I got in it , I did not shot a buck. The 2 I missed out getting in on it, I shot bucks. No more buck contests for me.

After shooting a Buck, when we get back to the "shack" must ring the bell once for each point.

May sound stupid, every year I listen to a couple Garth songs on the way to the farm I hunt. I crank the radio and roll down the windows, knowing I have a couple days with no responsibilities More of a tradition than a superstition.

I drink a big mug of Coffee while I'm driving to my Hunting club.
I always fix a big thermos of 'Dinty Moore' Beef Stew to eat when I get back to my truck.
I also drink a big mug of Coffee on the way home.

Who am I to mess with success...
I also always wear the same Alabama Jersey when the Tide is playing Football. It must work... They win nearly all of them...
