Never hunted public land before but I put out a camera last week. Came back to check this week. Someone cut it off the tree and took it. Makes me so mad. And on top of that its on a great rub and scrape line so I'm afraid they found my spot.

What a shame. So many people have no respect for others.

Had a camera stolen then 2 weeks after that a few miles away, I had a stand stolen. Oh and get this, about 3 days after my camera was stolen, another camera magically appeared 20 yards away from where mine was. And was in a lockbox. Hmmmm......

That sucks. Sorry to hear about that. Private land or lease is where it's at. Start saving the pennies to buy/lease land or go door to door. You'll never be able to properly scout or implement QDM on public land unfortunately, and your stuff grows legs to boot.

Go stick a flag of some kind in the ground in front of that camera so it fills his card up with nothing. Pretty obvious who took down your camera. Or, you could just smear mud on the lense, after you give him the bird.

You never leave a cam on public land unless you really know the area

I completely agree slugger. I had my camera there 2 and 1/2 years! I do understand that it is somewhat my own fault. Its just a shame how some people are these days.

Never leave anything on public land that you don't mind losing or getting stolen its a risk/reward kind of deal. I have a couple out on public land right now I put them in the thick stuff even I have a hard time finding them. It's worth it to me cause ill stay on stand longer knowing the buck that I got on cam could make an appearance at anytime.

I'm wondering if the lock box could take Mr. Bolt cutters in a fair fight?

Yeah my family owns a lot of private land back home in alabama that I used to hunt a lot, but I'm in the Marine Corps now so I hunt public land by my base since I cant drive from north carolina to alabama frequently. Just a huge pain in the rear. I mean really, I worked my butt of to find my spot, now some lazy jerk is going to not only steal my gear but also probably spot poach. The nerve of some people really riles me up. I spent an hour and a half out there looking for it because I thought I was going crazy thinking I must have put it somewhere else, but thats just not the case. It was taken off my mock scrape. No doubts.

go back before the season opens, chances are you put your camera in another guys spot, state land or no. You find a stand there, you find the guy that took your camera and can act accordingly. I would check along that line, folks tend to think the woods is theres, you likely ran into one of those.

I highly doubt if you confront the person who stole your camera that they will admit to having taken it.

That really sucks! I've had a camera, my first, out on state land for a month or so now. I put it up about 12 feet and angled it down. You have to keep the 'honest' people honest you know. I put up my stand yesterday. Unless you have your own sticks or are spider man....I think it's safe :D.

I have had people shoot arrows through my camera before deer season took place. Public land is all that I hunt and with each year it gets harder and harder to find places that people wont destroy. I have had pictures of people peeing all around my camera to try and destroy a hunting place. People just don't have respect for anything anymore....

so very true, especially around here you get the idiots that think they own the land. though hanging a camera or a stand on public land and leaving it for extended periods of time i agree is just asking to get it stolen, it should not be that way. respect for other hunters is non-existant in some areas
