I'm really hoping to get a deer on opening day this year. The only reason I say this is because the planted the soy beans very late this year. And by the looks of them now, they won't be ready to cut in the next 40 days until season. I was really hoping to to set a stand on the lower side of the hill they plant in. The only downside to that is that it is on the complete opposite side of the field as the entrance. I was wondering if I could just cut through the middle while it's still dark, or wait until in the afternoon.

Also, what are some tips that you could give for morning hunting, as I have never shot a deer in the morning

It's a huge gamble trying to get on a field edge stand in the mornings. I've never had success doing this but I've never been able to come up with a "perfect" entry route to avoid the deer. I just stick to the afternoons and focus on staging areas that I can sneak into in the mornings. If you can't figure out a way for early season, you can hold off till the late season when they hit the beans again. You need a TOPO map and study it hard to figure out a way in there. It will all depend on the lay of the land.

Without an aerial or topo its hard for me to guess what the terrain looks like. But typically i avoid fields in the morning because that is where the deer are likely to be at daybreak. I like to slip in the backdoor and hunt the timber and catch them on their way back in to bed. But i only do that around the rut. Early and late season its afternoons only

If I can get into a field edge blind, without exposing myself, I do it.

Especially if the blind is in a position near where the deer tend to leave the field.

Sometimes an hour before shooting time.

A deer sees and senses way more than I can in the dark.

I love hunting the mornings! The cool crisp mornings when the sun crests and in the field stands the BRUTE!! That being said I usually base it off of which way the wind is blowing, if you cant skirt around the field I would probably risk moving through the middle of the field during dark and hit the stand. Its a risky move but u cant kill them from the couch.. The other thing you could do is wait until later in the season, I couldn't do that being as I have buck fever now!

Avoid the field while they are there at all cost. Morning I would be looking for someplace about 40 yards into trees or cover where they will be heading. Setup in the field in the afternoon to wait for them to come back out.
