I'm confused what you mean about all year. If your stands are set up for a climber why would you not use it all year? What does your dad want you to use?

If you can use it quietly and climb trees everywhere you want to then I don't see anything wrong with it.

The only down falls I see in using a climber is noise and scent control. Before the season starts I will go out to all my stands and spray the living crap out of them with scent eliminator spray. Straps, seat cushions and all. Then once on stand I will do the same. I guess this can be done with a climber also. So to me the BIGGEST issue would be noise. I would think that if deer were in an area close by they could and would hear you climbing a tree. That would in tern signal them to get out and not come back until after dark at least. This would probably also apply and maybe even more so to a hang on stand. I used a climber a couple times last year and had no success out of it. The first time I was close to bedding and the second (at the time I was unaware) was also close to another bedding area. My brother on the other hand harvested two deer. One with the same climber and the other with a ladder stand. The ladder stand was right outside of a bedding area but, when he used the climber it was a good ways away from any bedding area and more in the middle of a trail that went from a food source to a bedding area so noise wasn't an issue. I guess I am saying I feel it is all about location with a climber. If they aren't close enough to hear you when you go up and your scent is controlled well enough, they will never know you are there until it is too late. This would apply to any stand locations I am sure though.

I didn't mention I harvested two also. One out of a ladder stand and the other out of a hang on. The hang on I hung and sprayed the day before. The ladder had been moved the week before and sprayed down also.

With the exception of a couple killed from the ground, every deer Ive killed over the past 8 years has been from a climber. I never hunt the same tree twice...wind, time of day, food source, pressure, phase, all require me to be in a different spot on a daily basis.

My dad likes tro hunt from the ground blind because his knees are bad. He trys to encourage me to do the same but he thinks its best to use a set stand and just rotate which one I sit each day
