I have a problem, where i hunt there are alot of deer. i hunt on about 1,000 acres of land, there are also alot of other hunters. when hunting season comes it seems like all the deer get spooked and we never see them again. what do you do??
With that many acres they are probably just going into the thick stuff away from the hunters find the thick stuff and find the deer!!!
Gotta get the boots on the ground and do some scouting. with the amount of land they're more than likely hanging around, you just gotta find em. like jcook said, they're more than likely in the really thick cover where they feel safe and less pressured.
If your hunting 1000 acres I imagine your hunting public land. Since the season has started yes you need to scout some but you dont want to trounce all over the woods especially if you feel the deer are spooky already. Fortunately with therut coming soon in many places this should change. Personallly I would look for some differences in terrain. Find a ravine with a flat and set up down there, always a good spot, just not one if you need to drag a deer out. Or look for a major transition in wood changes, pines to oaks or something like that. The deer have to go somewhere to eat, if you can find even a small bedding area set up 100 yards away towards where you think the feeding source will be they'll travel to. This is a very aggressive thing to do so playing the wind is most important. Great spot but could be ruined quickly if you get blown out first morning.
well i hunt private land, someone owns all of it. we usually hunt the river bottom but near the missouri river its flooded. so all we got it the bluffs. thank you for the info.
If you are by a river try to canoe down it to get in the back door. When you are canoeing try to find a low spot on the bank, and see if the deer are crossing it and set up down wind of that trail. I have read several articles that says many hunters on large pressured properties hunt within 1/3 of a mile from the road. Try going deeper and staying longer. When the other hunters go in for lunch or come out for the evening they might bump the deer toward you. Use funnels and soft edges to locate a stand placement . Good luck.
I would strongly consider gilligw's advice as i read a similar fact and that will more then likely give you the results your looking for. good advice man couldn't have said it better myself
