I have the above buck knife too. It was my Grandpa's. He passed it down to my Dad, and him to me. It's the only thing I have of his. I carry a ka-bar with me whenever I'm in the woods. It was a birthday present and it has field dressed both deer I've taken. It's great for getting through the ribcage, the hip joint and I can still clean out the entrails without nicking the entrails or messing up any meat. I use something similar to the buck knife to do my skinning and quartering and then a fillet knife for cleaning the silver skin and fat off. I'm planning on making myself a knife out of a deer antler when I finally get my hands on one. It will be a bowie style with a good skinning design.
I've used a Buck knife for years and a Schrade, Old Timer and Uncle Henry. I got invited to hunt antelope with an outfitter last year and they ALL used the Havalon. They gutted antelope, skinned and caped them as well. They use them for elk and deer too, and they all said they wouldn't have anything else. As soon as I wear out my Buck I'll get one. :D
I currently use a Buck Paklite as the knife I carry on my belt in the woods. I really like the slim design and lightweight of this knife. I also always have my grandfathers Buck folding knife (same as the ones above), it was passed down to my father then me, with me in my pack. I hardly use it its more of a good luck charm to me. I guess it could be considered an emergency back up aswell.
I have a few buck knives. wont use anything else either. I have the same 1 my father gave me when i was 8y/o.
I have a Sharp brand folding knife that I bought at KMART in 1982 for $10. It was a blue light special. My dad who has since passed shapened it for me the first time and it has been in my pack ever since. I have stropped it on leather a few times to touch it up, but its never seen a stone since. It has always held its edge no matter what abuse I have thrown at it. I have no idea how many deer it has field dressed for me since then ran out of toes and fingers trying to count them I have several other knifes I have bought over the years, but none has the memories or the sharp edge this old friend has...
I have a few knives but nothing special. I have a Gerber Gator that I keep on me because it's the only knife I can seem to sharpen really well. I also have a damascus steel handmade knife I bought at a sportsmans show a few years ago that I like but I can't seem to sharpen.
I'm a custom knife kinda guy. This newest one is a Lamey custom that Matt forged up for me. Rough forged with a Walnut handle!
I care two knives with me. The Outdoor Edge Flip and Zip Blaze and A Buck Knife Military issue my dad gave me after his second trip to the desert. Use the Flip and Zip all the time. The BUCK is in my pack more for sentimental value than anything. Also care SOG multi tool that brother in law gave me as a grooms man's gift.
Got a outdoor edge hybrid hook think that ls what its called. Also carry a kershaw pocket knife that's with me all the time and have a kabar from when I was in USMC. The kabar isn't really practical for anything jus threw it in my bag amd that's where its stayed.
