Does anyone else have a problem with their buddies who come out to hunt on your hunting set up just to kill something? My buddy hunts but doesnt do much with the meat. (Still have his doe meat from last year in my freezer in my garage). He is impatient too... claiming the first thing that walks by his stand he is going to "smoke" this saturday. (Late muzzleloader starts here in KY) Ive asked him to let all little bucks walk and I think he will but Idk..... (I think he just says stuff like this to get under my skin). He claims he is going to take the meat from last years deer and turn that into the processor with this years confirmation# On the other hand the property owner want me/us to take more deer since they are getting into his vegetable crops. I know its not possible to get rid of the deer (nor would I want them to be all gone). There has been 5 deer claimed off the property already (2 bucks 3 does) and 1 that im sure the coyotes have already dealt with (gut shot that I couldnt find. felt terrible). There are tons of deer in the area, but I dont want to over hunt it and keep taking every doe that walks but a stand since they may be prego already. Last day of the archery last huntin season I had 10 deer in front of my blind at last light. The numbers are up but I dont want to hunt just to hunt and keep killing deer when I have a freezer full already. Guess we could always donate to Hunters for the Hungry. Anyways just wanted to vent to others..... have a good one yall!
If, and I say if, I ever let another hunter hunt one of my set ups (with owner's permission of course) they'll know what standards I have set forth and practice. If they don't abide by them, they'll simply won't be allowed again that's all....only exception is if I'm ever in the situation that I have a large acreage place and he has never shot a buck and then I'd waive all buck limitations for him or her to connect on their first.
I have a brother that no longer hunts my property due to dumb stuff. He shot what ended up being a nice looking buck this year spotted fawn last year. Brisket shot with a 410 loaded with buck shot. Injured his leg. I have pics of him now and he will end up being a good looking buck in a couple years. He did a few other things last year i didn't agree with and before the season was over, he was no longer allowed to hunt here. This season he has injured a couple more on another family members property and purposely neck shot a buck with a bow. When I asked why he said "he wouldn't step out from behind the tree". really??? He was obviously headed in that directionon and only needed to take a couple more steps to open up his vitals. He does eat his meat though. Although I think he is a lazy hunter and doesn't try very hard to scout. I feel he hunts just because his friends do and just to say he does it. The reason I say that is because he does nothing in terms of practice or prep. He usually sells his bow that he bought used a few weeks before (this year he couldn't find one cheap enough for him until 4 weeks into the season its not that he can't afford a new good bow to keep either he has bought 2 rifles and a crossbow this season) then sales it a few weeks after rifle starts. Never practicesaces unless he misses a deer. If he hits the deer and injures it never to find it, he blames the equipment. It could very well be the equipment but, if you don't check the equipment then the root cause is the user. I don't know anyone who shoots deer just to shoot them and doesn't eat the meat. but, if I ever fifreezerreazer, I will donate. If thats what the land owner wants, kill them and donate.
Im still inside the Louisville City limits Omen.... I have two places that are each around 40 acres, which belong to family friends or coworkers. One is over hunted and the other which I refer to in this post is a honey hole is seems. Developed subdivision have pushed the heard in this area right in this area and they thrive on a neighbors propery that has a 200 tree apple orchard. Anyways..... that is the agrivating part about the whole situation is that I put in the time and the sets and my buddy kinda rides in my wake of my hard work. He knows the "honey hole" property owner too and so he thinks he has just as much hunting rights as I do. I guess it just bugs me some and with this weekend coming rapidly upon us it is just spilling over a little.
