We are supposed to get 1-2" tonight and another 1-2" tommorow throughout the day, so do you guys have any tips on hunting in the snow because I'll pretty much try anything. thanks, Jake
The national weather service is saying it should go east of you by quite a bit. Anyway, I'm not sure what kind of advice you are looking for, but make sure your peep doesn't get snow in it, wear a water resistant top at least, and enojy. Nothing prettier than watching deer in the snow. I'll be at my lease in IN, so the snow should miss me unfortunately but you never know.
Partner.....I can't wait. It'll be my 1st time hunting in the snow in NC. We've got 3-4" on the ground right now....and it's not supposed to stop until tomorrow afternoon. Good luck to you.
Good luck brothers! Ya gotta love that first snow, they deer have no idea how much they stick out at first!
it was -9 with 3" of snow on the ground when i got out of my stand last week. Weather seems to have made the deer bunch up and they were moving way earlier than normal. Temp wasn't so bad as long as you dress for it.
I have always concentrated on bedding areas that are open to the southern edges of woodlots or southern facing hillsides in the mornings. I try to cover travel corridors coming into these bedding areas without getting winded as the deer travel from where they have food sources. In the afternoon I try to find the same corridors and hunt them closer to the food source. If you jump bedded deer in the morning or afternoon don't be afraid to hunt the area, the deer will often circle back within an hours time or less. This happened last Thursday on my first hunt in over a week, and I scored a doe 40 minutes after jumping her and the three she was with. The snow will tell you where the deer are traveling and aging the deer tracks can help determine where the most recent activity has been. My last two sits have rewarded me with plenty of deer within range and a better understanding of how the deer are traveling on this new property.
We just had our first dusting of snow here yesterday. I always try to stay close to a food source. We have a standing corn field that we leave up for the deer. I always have good luck on the first snow.
hunting in snow is awesome!! covers up those dang leaves so you can be a ninja gettin to your stands.. and i feel like it insulates the woods... i'd take 20 degrees with snow versus the same without snow... and you can REALLY see the hard trails
