This weekend is the Wisconsin gun opener. Where I planned to gun hunt is expected to have about 20-30mph wind with cloudy, cold temps. When is wind too windy to hunt at an elevated height? (safety wise).

depends on the tree you are in and type of stand. There are a few hang ons in smaller trees that I won't sit if its blowing over 15. But then we have some ladders on very large trees that barely move at all. Also a few stands can get cover from the wind due to their location topographically.

Do you have any stand located somewhere where the wind won't be so hard? Like a bottom of a hill. I bet the deer will be in these locations avoiding the wind as well

Same forecast in IL this weekend, I have been thinking about this all week. Considered ground blind but that might be hard to setup and maintain. I got some scrub trees on a fence row looking into a gully and the field edge about 100yds away and not downwind of the expected wind direction. I think I plan to honestly sit in my chair under the scrubs and when a deer comes out, it will be down before it even notices me. Deer seem to love that fencerow to travel between thicker cover

Like others have said it depends on the stand location and type of stand. Try and get into a valley where wind wont be as bad. good luck our gun season doesn't open till the monday after thanksgiving so no deer hunting for 2 weeks

Setup in a nice healthy Oak. Avoid, Pines, aspen, tall maples.

Myself, I'm just going to have to make sure the windows are closed.

I arrowed this nice 9pt Nov. 2015! Winds were topping out at 25 mph. I was in my Summit climber and stayed seated most of time due to winds. 3:30 in afternoon, this guy came cruising thru. Shot him with my bow.
