So the other day I was out scouting, and stumbled on to a cornfield, my question is how to hunt it? It will not get haevested cause it a wild life management area. Do set up right on the field or 20 yards in to the woods? Any pointers would be great. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
If it is secluded and receives very little, if any pressure from other humans you could set-up right on it. Where I hunt the pressure from humans if fairly moderate-heavy so I never hunt field edges any longer during archery season. The deer rarely come out during daylight hours. Scout it and look for some of the heavier used trails and set-up on the downwind side either on the edge or back in the woods. I am sure you will get more feedback on this topic from others. Good luck!
I would walk around the edges, find the heaviest trails going into the corn, then follow them back into the woods a little ways. Set up in that area.
Thanks for all the input the field very little foot traffic from humans I walked through chest high grass to get to it. Sent from my HTC Glacier using Tapatalk 2
This would be a good approach I think. Make sure you are watching your entry and exit routes also, keep those deer ignorant to the fact that they are being hunted. Another approach you could try is stalking the rows on a windy, rainy day. I did this one year and got within 20 yards of a bedded doe. She ended up spooking but it was one of the coolest hunting experiences I have ever had.
I have a corn field about the same size... I am in the woods about 20 yards so I can shoot out to the edge (where cameras are showing the most traffic) as well as shooting in the woods should they use it as a staging area....
There is some good advice already. Can you put a camera in there to see what deer are using it and what time they are hitting the field?
