as some of you know I was in brazil for the past week, well, one of my coworkers down there got to talking with me about hunting and fishing and etc... for the most part, gun hunting is effectively illegal since you pretty much can't buy a gun in the whole country... however, you can still gun hunt if you've previously had a gun... interesting thing is that most gun hunters in Brazil use old flintlocks... and when I say old I'm talkin mid-late 1800's vintage... he told me that with those old guns they were lucky to get an accurate shot beyond about 50yds, so of course I asked him about bow hunting and he'd said that it was legal and all but few people did it, coincidentally, their big game animal was also deer (though not sure which varieties)...

we didn't get to talk a lot about it but it was interesting to listen to their take on it... they are very much anti-sport hunting and hunt strictly for food...

I went to Brazil for a week in 2001. The country is enormous. I am sure there are plenty of things to hunt with your bow. I would love to bowhunt and fish for peacock bass in Brazil.

My girlfriend is from Brazil and has a friend down there that hunts, or at least has hunted, with the local aboriginals using bows. He's very interested in bowhunting but I don't speak Portuguese and he doesn't speak English so I'm not sure how our communication is going to work unless she translates. I've definitely got a trip down there in my near future but my sporting focus is more on fishing than hunting. Maybe I'll rethink that.
