I am pretty new to the sport, but already thoroughly addicted. What bows would you recommend for both hunting and target? I know you pretty much use any hunting bow to shoot target, but basically what I am after is a bow that I would use primarily as a target bow but also take out hunting from time to time. Right now I am looking at the Hoyt G3 Carbon Matrix and the Mathews Monster Chill.

First off, how serious are you wanting to get? The bows you listed would be "decent" target bows. The first thing I look for in a target bow, or a hunting bow for that matter, is axle to axle. If I were you, I would be looking at bows in that 35-37" range. They aren't too long to hunt with but you'll reap the benefits on the range.

More of the serious route, I have decided to check out the Hoyt Contender as well as a few of the Mathews target bows.

The new Mathews Chill R has a 33 ATA, no jump on the shot. I'm really enjoying mine and thinking of getting into one of the groups here to start doing target shooting besides just prepping for hunting.

I ended up going all in on a Hoyt Pro Edge Elite and I have a Carbon Spyder 34 for hunting. Dimensions of the two bows are pretty close to identical. You can never have too many bows right?

Elite E35 is all you'll need. It was originally made for a forgiving hunting bow but they shoot like nothing else and a lot of people switched to using them as target bows. I'm a huge Hoyt fan but nothing compares to how the E35 draws feels and shoots. Check em out.
