im just getting finished with therapy after having rotator cuff surgery done 18 weeks ago which consisted of having part of my shoulder blade cut out and a titanium screw put in to hold everything down.all i kept thinking about and asking the doc is when will i be able to pull my bow back again being my left arm was locked in position after having that sling on for seven weeks.doc kept telling me i will get back to full strength in about 16 weeks but a year for full recovery so do not try to pull your bow back yet so the screw will stay in place.me being hard headed, i tried to pull my pse back(63lbs.) two weeks ago and i couldnt get it back, the pain was unreal, anyway went to docs yesterday, took xrays, screw still in place, doc says go for it,shot my bow for the first time yesterday wit no problems.i dont know about back surgery but im sure you will feel like you never hunt again, just listen to what the doctors tell you and always ask questions and you should be ready to get back in your stand soon.keep us posted and gud luck.

First i wanna thank everyone for the prayers and wishes.
I got home last night and I am feeling really good. I have been up walking around for a few minutes at a time which feels really good. The doc said that my surgery was 7 & 1/2 hrs. He felt that everything went better then he expected. That my bones are so strong that he was having a hard time drilling in to them. So now I just have to exercise and keep pushin forward.

Glad to hear you're back at home and everything went well. Just think, every day is a day that you're closer to hunting again.

When my Dad had his back fused way back in the day, he had to find stuff to do laying down. What are your plans?

Glad to hear things went well. Don't kill yourself trying to attend the GTG, you have a hunting season to be healthy for.

Well here is a happy update for all of you that have taken the time to read this and check in on me.
As of today I have been able to walk a total of 2 miles. yep 2 frickin miles.
I have also already cut my pain meds done from 10mg hydrocodon every4 hours to
    5mg every 5 or 6 hours.
My doc thinks Im crazy but he said as long as I am not causing myself extreme pain to keep pushing forward.
So again thank you for all of your wishes and prayers and know that my first deer this season will be dedicated to all of you.
Hell I just might have it mounted even if its a doe and hang her on a bowhunting.com plaque. :jaw: :jerry:

Congrats man. Are you in therapy or doing your own? Just curious as I am an occupational therapist here in Woodstock and McHenry. Had a knee surgery that most people have to have PT(physical therapy) for afterwards in May. I never attended any therapy, but also have the benefit of knowing what to do and to push it as someone stated earlier (I think it was Shed). I even made it to the GTG to remind me of how crappy of a shot I am even though 2 of the top 3 shooters of the 3D course were on my team. My mother-in-law had the exact-same surgery 4 weeks before me and is still not back to work 'cause she spent the first 2 weeks on the couch watching TV versus walking, exercising and stretching. If you need any tips, exercises or just plain suggestions drop me a PM. Take care!

    Mike

    thanks rizzo,
I think I start therapy the first week of July.
I see my Doc on the 5th and then go from there. I think I hvae regular therapy for a few weeks first the occupational therapy for a few more then possibly still have to go to occupational training to find a new career since they don't think I'll be able to be a carpenter anymore because of my lifting limits now. So I have been practicing already tell me if I have it right
Welcome to McDonalds can I take your order
    lmao
