With the opening day of turkey season getting close here in Georgia, I went out to Wal-Mart and purchased a new box call to try out this year. I picked up a Hunter's Specialties Strut "Closer" for $15.00. The call doesnt require any chalk on the srfaces of the box, instead the call has a paint or rubber coating that allows the call to be "waterproof". Im not wanting to go and dip my new call under water and test it, but I did take it outside today and test it out with the light shower we have had today, With other boxes if the box surfaces get wet the chalk goes away and I can see why Hunter's Specialties calls the box water proof. The call is very easy to use and you can get a very nice tone out of it. The box is made out of poplar and the paddle is made out of cherry. The box does have a elastic band that holds the paddle in place so it doesnt rattle around while you are walking around. Overall the call is well made and very durable in the wet weather.
Stoped by Bass Pro shop this weekend and tried the knight and Hale box call "little liar" must be a new way to make box calls this one is made the same way. but cost $27.00 sounded great, hope it goes on sale
I had seen that same one, but wasnt paying that much for a call that was the similar in design and had the same tone. I have always used Hunter's Specialties calls, and havent had any problems. I think for that price all you are doing is paying for the name instead of the call.
